Shirley Byers Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 6, 2025.
Shirley Jean Byers UPPER Shirley Jean Byers, born July 10, 1946, in Enid, Oklahoma, to Glenn and Ruth Maddox, passed away peacefully July 20, 2025, at Hospice Austin's Christopher House, surrounded by her loving family.

From a young age, Shirley had a deep compassion for others, which naturally led her to a lifelong career in nursing. While working in the emergency room in Little Rock, she met Joseph Byers when he approached her to ask for some aspirin. After a brief courtship, they married and began a partnership that would span 55 beautiful years.

Together, they eventually made their home in Texas, where they raised their two children, Sean and Shannon. Shirley worked as a nurse for nearly four decades, touching countless lives with her kindness, skill, and unwavering dedication.

She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a proud grandmother. Her warmth and genuine curiosity meant she never met a stranger-she had a remarkable gift for conversation and an even greater gift for listening. She found joy in connecting with others and learning their stories.

Shirley is survived by her beloved husband, Joseph Byers; her son, Sean Byers; her daughter, Shannon Carr; her cherished grandchildren, Molly Carr and Cole Byers; and her sister, Linda Biggs. Her legacy of compassion, strength, and love lives on in all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice Austin's Christopher House in gratitude for their exceptional care, Donate / Hospice Austin, or Triumphant Love Lutheran Church in Austin, Texas, Give - Triumphant Love Lutheran Church.
