Shirley Courtney Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 11, 2017.
Ms. Shirley Ann Courtney was born November 24, 1941 to George Riley Courtney and the late Frankie Mae Williams in Waco, TX.
She attended public schools in Waco, TX and graduated from Waco High School. Shirley worked several jobs throughout her life, most notably, for the American Heart Association. Mainly she was a home maker, mother, and friend who was well known for her kind, caring, loving, and giving heart. She provided unwavering love and support to her mother, grandmother, brothers, her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and all family members and friends. She was known to all as Granny and could be depended and relied on to be there for weddings, birthdays, and all family events. She was also there to provide love and support during sickness, bad times and moments of sorrow. She had a wealth of experience and knowledge and was always there to provide advice and support and would give the good and the bad when asked and if you were getting on her nerves she would let you know. She was a fair minded woman who loved all in spite of the circumstances. Most of all she loved her family and events when the whole family was together, she enjoyed going out to eat, riding around to garage sales, and going to different places. Some of the fondest memories were sitting on her front porch drinking coffee, talking, laughing, and playing around, or gathering at her house for breakfast, dinner, holidays, birthdays, or just because everyone just ended up being there. Her front porch and her home was known as the gathering place for all of us and she was the cornerstone, leader, and matriarch of the family who was always there to provide love, comfort, advice, and support when she was needed or if she felt you needed it.

Shirley Courtney is preceded in death by her mother Frankie Williams, her grandmother Thelma Chase and her brothers George Riley Courtney and Harvey (Bubba) Williams and sister in law Dreka Williams.

She leaves to cherish her memory her father George Riley Courtney, her brother James Earl Courtney, four sons, Emmitt Courtney, Edwin Courtney, Roderick Courtney and Derek Lennear, four daughters, Shelia Courtney, Traci Williams, Lisa Long, son in law, Sam Long and Ursula Lennear. She cherished and loved her twenty one grandchildren, Micah Thornton, Emmitt Courtney II, Ian Hunter Quick, Dwight Thomas, Shameka Courtney, Alexander Courtney, Robert Courtney, Edwin Courtney Jr, Stacie Courtney, Taylor Courtney, Courtney Ware, Jessica Ware, Jasmine Ware, Colvin Williams, Amber Walton, Samarian Long, Larius Pullen, Ashley Lennear, Tyler Courtney, Christopher Courtney and Zyon (Bud) Courtney, and a host of nieces and nephews. Shirley was especially proud of her 19 grandchildren who she loved very much and they in turn loved their Granny also known as "G" granny.

Granny if I knew my time with you was limited I would rewrite everytime I spent with you. I would tell you I loved you just a little bit more, I would hug you just a little bit more, I would let u call me girl and not correct you with my name just a little bit more. I wish I could garage sell with you just a little bit more. I wish I had just more night to sleep with you and complain about you snoring . I didn't take each time I had with you because I always figured I would always have just a little bit more, but you was tired, and you felt complete like everything you needed to get done had been fulfilled. And jan 10. I then realized that my time with you was up. I'm selfish cause I wish you were still here. I'm selfish because I wasn't ready to let u go. But Your resting now and I'm appreciative of the time I had with you, love you and miss you like no other granny! Love Ashley
