Shirley Glickel-Nocitra Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 18, 2025.
With great sadness and eternal love, we announce the passing of Shirley Glickel-Nocitra, who departed this world peacefully on March 17, 2025, surrounded by her son and grandson till her last moments as her seemingly endless fight to remain here with us. Shirley on her final hours, although sad and challenging for all, was able to speak and say her final goodbyes to those closest to her.

Born on April 21, 1936, Shirley dedicated her life to caring for others. She was a registered nurse by training but spent most of her career as a business owner, building and running Colonial Manor Rest Home and Tot's and Toy's Nursery School in Juliustown, NJ. Her passion for both elder care and early childhood education was a testament to her nurturing spirit and unwavering commitment to helping others. Whether caring for residents in need or shaping young minds, she touched countless lives with her kindness, strength, and generosity.

Shirley was a longtime resident of Juliustown, NJ, where she built a life filled with love and resilience. After the loss of her beloved husband, Edward Nocitra, she spent the past four years living in Colorado near her son, Jerry, and three of her many cherished grandchildren, who lovingly cared for her and supported her in her final years. She treasured every moment spent cheering on Logan at his hockey, baseball, and football games, building Legos with him, sharing wisdom and deep conversations with Jacob during their time as roommates together on the ranch, and keeping close with Kimi, who never missed an opportunity to call, visit, or text her and will forever carry a piece of her grandmom with her, having a tattoo of Shirley's handwriting that reads, "All my love, now and forever."

She is survived by her loving family, including her three devoted sons, Joseph "Jerry" Glickel, John Verity, and Jeff Verity, her beloved stepsons, Howard Glickel and Henry Glickel, and her cherished grandchildren, Jacob, Kimbery, Logan, Devon, Grant, Zach, Joshua, and Jeffrey. She also leaves behind several step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and close friends, all of whom she loved dearly. Last but certainly not least, her beloved brother, George D. Johnson (Doug), was a source of lifelong support and love for his sister, during her final hours she made sure to tell her son to tell my brother that "I love Him."

Shirley's love was boundless, and her legacy will live on in the countless memories and lessons she left behind. She was more than a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend-she was the heart and soul of her family. Even as her health declined, she remained fiercely independent-stubborn to the end, refusing to let others assist her with even the simplest tasks, and fighting with every ounce of strength she had. She lived for her loved ones, sacrificing without hesitation and offering endless love and support to all who needed it, even when she was not able to give, she still gave.

A celebration of Shirley's life will be held on a future date not yet determined in her hometown , where family and friends can gather to honor the incredible woman, she was.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Juliustown United Methodist Church or Juliustown Volunteer Fire Company in Shirley's memory, continuing her legacy of love and kindness and for her appreciation of the life of services they provided her small town.

Rest peacefully, Shirley, Mom, Cat Mom, Grandmother, and Friend. Great memories of your love and support will carry us through, now and forever.
