Shirley D. "Sis" Hake
Shirley "Sis" Dean Hake, 93, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2022. She was a resident of Pacifica Senior Living since 2018 having suffered from late onset dementia.
Shirley was born on September 30, 1929 in Yakima, WA to Leo and Shirley (Wallace) Hake. Her two brothers, Leo G. "Bud" Hake of Montesano, WA, and Gerald R. Hake of Ellensburg, WA preceded her in death. Shirley earned her Masters degree in Library Science from the University of Washington and spent her career supervising libraries throughout the west including Arizona, Centralia and Moses Lake, WA, Idaho State Library Boise, University of Idaho Library at Moscow, Ketchikan, AK and Lopez Island, WA. She retired in 1995 to return to Yakima, WA purchasing a country farmhouse with a small concord grape acreage. A gourmet cook, she made delicious grape jelly, juice and syrup. She enjoyed a long life having beat breast and brain cancer.
Surviving relatives include nieces and nephews, Nan Hake Falteisek, Phoenix, AZ, Marc Hake, Ellensburg, WA, Trina Hake Horn, Bothell, WA, Paula Hake, Ellensburg, WA, Brad Hake, Aberdeen, WA, Gregg Hake, Renton, WA, cousins Dayle Durbon, Indio, CA, Donna Williams, Corte Madera, CA, and Jack and Steve Wallace, Kittitas, WA.
Per Sis's request there will be no memorial service. Memorial contributions in Shirley's honor are suggested to Hearts and Hands of Kittitas County (formerly Hospice Friends) 302 W. Second Ave. Ellensburg, WA 98922 or your local library.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Johnston & Williams Funeral Home and Crematory of Ellensburg. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.johnston-williams.com
