Shirley Mapson Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Mar. 19 to Mar. 20, 2009.

MAPSON Shirley (nee Luker) June 6, 1925 - March 15, 2009 On Sunday, March 15, 2009 Shirley Alaine Mapson's sunset journey peacefully came to a close and her new journey began. Shirley is survived by her loving husband and fishing partner, George, of 60 years, her children, Darrell Brewer, George Mapson, Ed Mapson, Bob Mapson, Ron Mapson and Barb Nyman and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Shirley also leaves behind her brother and fishing buddy, Ed Luker, and sister, Minnie Anderson. She is predeceased by her parents, George and Annie Luker and her brother Mickey. Shirley loved fishing, knitting, gardening and sports, especially her Toronto Blue Jays and Vancouver Canucks. She had a deep passion for her six children, eleven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and her dear neighbours and friends. Shirley loved life and became the center of life for everyone she touched. She was the glue that bound together her family, extended family and friends. Shirley's final days were spent at her daughter, Darrell's home near Princeton, B.C. where she was cared for by daughters Darrell and Barb and granddaughter, Danielle. We all thank them for providing such loving care during her final days. Feisty, without pretence, Shirley was always a giver not a taker. She approached every opportunity in life with a zest and energy that was contagious. She calmed rough waters and brought wind to our sails when we needed it. As was her wish, there will be no service. A "celebration of her life" will be held this summer, her favourite time of year. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Vancouver Children's Hospital. Messages of love, sent to her son, George, at [email protected] will be forwarded to family and friends.
