Shirley Ann Murphy

12/24/1939 - 3/10/2023

Shirley peacefully passed away March 10, 2023 at her home surrounded by loved ones. She was 83 years old.

Shirley was born December 24, 1939 in Crowley Louisiana to Eddie Murphy and Orida Touchette Murphy. Shirley had 3 siblings, Genevieve Murphy (Crain), Gertrude Murphy (Guillory), and Lonnie Dean Murphy. The family moved to Vinton Louisiana when Shirley was 10. Shirley graduated from Vinton High School in 1957. Shirley had 2 children, James Carroll Phillips Jr. and Lydia Ann Phillips (Stroncheck, and husband Tony Stroncheck who Shirley claimed as her own). She had many different jobs while living in Vinton. She worked as a dispatcher for the Vinton Police Department, Shirley owned a shop with her 2 sisters that sold plants and home decorations. It was aptly named 3 Sisters. She sold Avon for several years and went on to get certified as an EMT. She worked at Delta Downs Race Track taking care of any jockeys that were injured. She also worked at the Handicap Center putting her skills to use. After living in Vinton for over 40 years she moved to Bridge City Texas. While living in Bridge City Shirley started a business called Road Legal Inc. that helped truck drivers get legal to drive from state to state and file their fuel tax reports for them quarterly. During her years in Bridge City she was quite the adventurer and traveled to all 50 states, Canada and Mexico. After living in Bridge City for over 15 years she retired and moved with her daughter and her family to Colorado. During retirement Shirley spent as much time as possible with her grand children, Chase Wilfer, Meghan Stroncheck, Hunter Phillips (Caylee), Tory Stroncheck, Shana Phillips, Tanner Phillips and a bonus grandson Logan Doucet. And of course loving on her only great grand child, Kadyn Laine Phillips. They were all her pride and joy and brought her so much happiness. Shirley had many hobbies and activities to occupy her time. Cooking was one of her favorite things to do and definitely one of our favorite things she did. She was the best cook ever. She spent many hours reading, a hobby she passed on to her daughter. Shirley enjoyed many weekends and holidays at our lake camp. She loved the outdoors and squirrel hunting. Shirley was amazing at crocheting and made blankets and throws for all of her grandchildren and many other family and friends. Shooting pool, playing bingo with family and friends, Tetris, puzzles, poker and many other games. Shirley loved the Star Trek movies and spending time watching movies with her grandkids. Shirley also liked going to the Casinos ever chance she got. She also spent much time loving her best friend her dog Jolie'. Shirley lived a long beautiful fulfilling life.

Shirley is survived by her sister Genevieve Crain, Her children James Phillips, Lydia Phillips Stroncheck and her husband Tony Stroncheck, her grandchildren Chase, Meghan, Tory, Hunter, Caylee, Shana, Tanner, Logan and her great grandson Kadyn. She is also survived by her bonus daughter that she claimed as her own, Liz Taylor.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
