Shirley Phillipson

With loving remembrance, we announce the passing of Shirley Marie Phillipson

( Freeman) on August 11, 2024, at her home in Redding, California, at the age of 85. Born on July 28, 1939, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, to James and Doris Freeman (Watson), Shirley was known for her strong will, unwavering determination, and love and support for her family and friends.

A long-time resident of Benicia, Shirley graduated from Benicia High School in 1957. She worked at Dr. Sanford's office and later at Family Doctor Medical Group while raising her children, Michael, Eric, Chad, and Erin. In 1991, Shirley earned her Registered Nursing degree, dedicating her life to helping others. During her nearly 20-year career as a nurse, she was a passionate advocate for patients, striving to change inhumane practices within mental health care facilities.

Shirley enjoyed traveling, embarking on many adventures to Mexico, Canada, and across the United States with family and her companion of over 30 years, Vincent Bridgeford. An avid reader and movie enthusiast, she also found joy in writing in her journals. Shirley had a passion for painting and gardening, often capturing the beauty of her irises, roses, and orchids in her artwork. Her talent extended to refinishing wooden furniture, which she adorned with her signature hand-painted floral details. Her artistic gifts are cherished by family and friends.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, James and Doris Freeman; brother James Ronald Freeman and her son Michael. She is survived by her sons Eric and Chad Phillipson; daughter Erin Campbell ( Phillipson); daughters-in-law Shella and Rachel; son-in-law Brian; brothers John and Don Freeman; sister Sue Hemmer

( Freeman); sister-in-laws Heather and Linda; grandchildren Bryan, Jonathon, Meghan, Larry, Schuylar, Coral, Colton, Camden, and Stacie; and multiple great-grandchildren.

Shirley is gone from home but not from our hearts.
