Shirley Skinner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Nov. 15 to Nov. 20, 2022.
Kenyon Shirley Kenyon Skinner, aged 83, of Santa Monica, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 11, 2022, after a brief illness.

Shirley was born September 28, 1939, in Elgin, Illinois, the daughter of Harold and Lucille Kenyon.

Shirley graduated from Northwestern University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1960 and was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. She went on to teach middle school History and English. On August 12, 1962, she married Donald G. Skinner of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They had five children. Shirley was an active parent and wife holding almost every position there was in the PTA and served as PTA President of Lincoln Middle School. She also served on the board of the Tennis Patrons of Santa Monica and was a member of the Westside Philharmonic Association for which she hosted numerous events. Shirley's unwavering support of Don's demanding career was pivotal in his accomplishments in developing the Urology Department at USC and in raising tens of millions of dollars to support Urologic Cancer Research at the USC Norris Cancer Center.

Of course, at the center of everything, was raising her children with love, compassion, and patience. Shirley was a great listener, a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother and she will be sorely missed.

She was predeceased by her daughter Carol Skinner and survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Donald; children, Joan (Mike) Krenik of Los Angeles, Anne (Erik) Elward of Westchester, Jim (Krista) of Manhattan Beach, John (Jill) of Santa Monica; her ten grandchildren and her sister Betty Rooker of Batavia, Illinois.

Don, So sorry to read of the passing of your wonderful wife, Shirley. Always upbeat and smiling as we met at so many AAGUS mtgs. She was the superb wife and mom and the pillar of a family who spent their life giving to others. We will miss her.

Hi Don. Mercer and I are very sad to hear of Shirley's passing
It must be such a sad time for you and your family. We always enjoyed being with her at the golf outings. I was a DG also! She was the perfect Delta Gamma. Know that our hearts are with you and your family. Love. Mercer and Carol
