I worked with Shu-Fun in 3M's Engineering group and also knew him from the Table Tennis club. He was a truly fun guy, great sportsman. His defensive skills were incredible - he could return the hardest shots fifteen feet off the table with vicious spin on them. I had a huge point handicap which helped me keep up with him. Also, I never washed my racket so the grease killed his spin. One evening, I was in the Men's Room and I had taken my racket with me and left it by the sink. When I returned to retrieve it, there was Shu-Fun with a big grin on his face. He said "I washed it for you". Then he proceeded to beat the tar out of me for the next several matches.
Shu-Fun, old buddy, I still miss you.

I was deeply saddened to learn about Shu-fun's passing while reading the 3M Stemwinder. He was such a kind and friendly person. I have very fond memories of him and his two daughters playing in the 3M Table Tennis league with me and my two sons. He was such a good sportsman, friend and team leader (I think we won first place that year). My very heartfelt condolences goes out to the Lee family.

I met Shu-Fun online a couple of years ago while playing bridge at pogo.com. It was shortly after my own father had passed away. He too was an engineer and spending time with Shu-Fun helped me fill the void my fathers passing had left. He became a very dear friend to me and we spent many hours playing bridge and sometimes just talking. I will never forget him and would like to pass my condolances to his wife and family. I often think perhaps he and my father have met now in God the Father's garden where they will be at peace forever. Amen and God Bless.

I played many table tennis matches against Shu-Fun. He was a competitor and a gentleman in winning or losing. I will always remember my days of playing at the Minnesota clubs. He's in my thought and prayer.

I have known Shu-fun for many years in the Process Instrumentation & Control Dept at 3M. He was an outstanding engineer, had a great personality and always wore a smile. What a loss! My deepest sympathy to the Lee family.

Shu-fun was a colleague, a valued friend and a great table-tennis player. He introduced me to some of the finest Chinese restaurants in the St. Paul area like Princess Gardens and My Le Hoa. Interestingly enough, he had trouble beating me at table-tennis because I never washed my filthy greasy paddle to better deaden his spin. One day while I was in the rest room, he took the liberty of washing my paddle for me, then proceeded to beat the tar out of me that night. I will miss his ever-cheerful demeanor and gentle spirit.

My heartfelt condolences to the Lee family on their great loss.

To the Lee family, please accept my deepest sympaty for your loss. As a Purchasing Agent, I worked with Shu-Fun on a number of projects. He always had 3M's best interests at heart. I also had the opportunity to play tennis with him at the 3M ESPE outings. He was a good man and with a sense of humor.
You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

I'm not sure that I can ever remember seeing Shu-Fun without a big smile; even during a hard-fought match he was always having a good time. No matter what, you could count on Shu-Fun to infect you with his cheerfulness.

I met Shu-Fun through Helen Leung. The world has lost a kind and decent man who always had a smile on his face.
I enjoyed playing table tennis with him on my trips to Minnesota.

Lihong & Kejian

June 3, 2011

Both Kejian and I are sorry to hear of Shu-Fun's passing. He was a good man, very kind and friendly, with a good sense of humor. We always enjoyed playing Ping Pong with him and talking to him. We both learned something from him. He made me believing I was a good Ping Pong player even though I lost most the games which I had 20 handicapped points advantage. I memorial of Shu-Fun, Kejian wrote a Chinese couplet:

?????,???????
?????,???????

Our condolences to his family.

I was shocked to see the obituary in the Star Tribune earlier this week. I have not played in the TT league for a few years, and finally this year (now that both our boys are older and she can handle them by herself in the evenings!!) I got permission from my wife to play again. I was waiting to get my fitness level up before I started... and was looking forward to playing against the "masters" and getting clobbered by Shu-Fun, Zhongshu, Dong-Wei, etc... Sadly, that is not to be with Shu-Fun. I will miss his endearing smile, and he always had a good and kind word for me after giving me a sound thrashing. He was loved by all those who were with him. May he get to play an eternity of ping-pong (fly in the air and hit that smash!), and I pray that his soul rests in peace.

I have crossed path with Shu-Fun both at work in 3M and in various table tennis activities for over 35 years. He taught me much about the sport. He retired from 3M a few years before I did. We kept in touch and practiced together in Fridley from time to time, last time being two years ago before I started spending more time in California. I recall he was having pain at his knee but that never dimmed his enthusiasm for the sport. He was always a positive and encouraging individual who I will miss dearly. My deepest condolences to his family.

June 3, 2011

I had opportunity to play ping pong with Shu -Fun Lee quite a few times. He had been always smiling and cheerful and full of energy. He always had sense of humor and was young at heart.
I am sadden of his departure and wish his family and friends all the best. We have lost a very good gentleman indeed.

God bless him and his family.

Shu-Fun will be missed. He introduced me to 3M Table Tennis Club many years ago, while we were hitting with the group of players at the Air Traffic location in Burnsville. He was always willing to play a match or practice hit at any place him and I played. I learned a lot about the game of Table Tennis from him; and will miss his friendly personality, skill and perfect etiquette of the game. Him and I had a great rapport. My sympathies to his family.

I too was very sad to hear of Shu's passing. I played with and against him for many years in leagues and on Saturday. We had fun playing king of the table each week after the Saturday event was over . He was a nice guy and did indeed have a good sense of humor. I once kidded him that he should be a comedian, as he often got me to laugh. I will miss him.

A fierce and friendly competitor, whether in victory or defeat, Shu-Fun was always a gentleman. It was marvelous how he was able to share his passion for ping pong with his children, Hsu-Yi, Jia-Yi, and Ernest. I haven't played in years, but I hope he didn't tell anyone which serve of his I could never get back. My deepest sympathy to his family.

We'll all miss you Shu and I would have loved to get another match in and share the banter back and forth the way we always did in the years gone by. I know you're already hooked up with some other legends in heaven laughing and playing some table tennis. My prayers go out to our kids and the rest of the family for peace and strength in this time of loss.

I'm surprised and so sorry to hear of Shu-Fun's passing.

He was a much better ping-pong player than me, but he still made it fun to play together. I loved our late night discussions at Green Mill after matches. I've missed his presence the last few seasons at the 3M league.

I hope they have ping-pong tables in heaven and will look forward to a game with him when we next meet.

I am very saddened by the loss of Shu-Fun.
I have great memories of him over the years in table tennis. He always had the biggest smile for everyone and went out of his way to help out in any way he could. I was fortunate to have been able to see him the past two weeks and even though he was weakened, he still had that wonderful spirit. He will be greatly missed by the many whose lives he touched in some way. My deepest condolences to his wife Shirl, and to his family.

I knew Shu-Fun via table tennis, as did many folks. I always enjoyed the matches we played and Shu-Fun always had a knack for making you feel good...even when you had just lost! Although our paths haven't crossed in the last couple of years in leagues or tournaments I've always fondly remembered the times I had the privilege of standing on the other side of the table. My thoughts to the family and other table tennis friends who were touched by Shu-Fun.
