Sid Horwitz Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 10, 2021.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sid Horwitz on November 8, 2021. Sid was born to Donna and the late Ben Horwitz in Cleveland on May 30, 1953. He met the love of his life, Jody Mendelssohn, at the University of Arizona while attending law school, and they married in 1977. They enjoyed 44 years of marriage and were blessed with sons Brian and Justin and daughters-in-law Luna and Nicole. Later to come were loving grandchildren Brady, Makena, Ethan, Nash, and Sienna. Sid is also survived by his brother Marc, sisters, Shelley Horwitz, Cara Derham, and Andrea Share, sisters-in-law Gail Ross, Wendy Herst, and Nancy Roseth, and brothers-in-law, the late Ira Davidoff, Steve Ross, Mickey Herst, and Hal Roseth. Completing his devoted family are 19 nieces and nephews and 8 great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to his devotion to and love of family, Sid especially enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren, as well as hiking, playing guitar and pickleball, and, most of all, playing poker at Talking Stick Casino. In between those activities he managed to find time to fit in practicing law.

The family invites donations in Sid's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, St. Mary's Food Bank, or Hospice of the Valley.

My condolences go out to all of you for the passing of Sid (Husband, Father and Grandfather). Sid and I worked together for many years at Carmichael & Powell, P.C. Unfortunately, we do not understand what God's plan is for each of us, but, rest assured, Sid is no longer in pain and is at peace. My hope for all of you is that all of your individual memories warm your hearts and infinitely live on in your minds. Sid's spirit will live on in each of you forever; treasure his spirit in your thoughts of him. My prayers are with all of you and may God Bless You always.

It's literally impossible to put into words how much this lifetime of friendship meant to me. I met Sid fifty years ago at the University of Arizona and have stayed best of friends right up until his passing. Though I lived all these years in either California or Colorado, we always stayed in touch and looked forward to those times we were together. I'll remember the laughs, the mischief we knew we may hope to get into, our mutual love of music and the guitar, discussions about the world, getting outside and taking a hike, excitement about sports seasons, and our devotion to friends and family. My heart goes out to his wonderful wife Jody, who I've known almost as long...Their boys, grandkids, sisters and their families. Sid's final words to me was quoting Jimi Hendrix Voodoo Chile: "If I don't see you no more in this world, I'll meet you on the next one, and don't be late". Until we meet again...looking forward to jamming. RIP my friend. Love and Light. Eddy

Jeff and I were so fortunate to have a friend like Sid in our lives. He always provided laughs to our little group of friends. At times he was the voice of reason when advise was needed. Sometimes the advise came when I didn´t even ask! He was a great comfort to me when I needed an ear to listen.
Sid, my dear friend, you are going to be missed.

I was sorry to learn of Sid´s passing. Through the years we had a lot of good times, and some good discussions.. I always respected Sid, because he was a self made man, and devoted his life to his family. When it´s all said and done, there are only a few friends that you rely on and look up to. Sid was one of them. We will miss him. May he Rest In Peace. Mike Bobier

"A heart is not judged by how much you love; but by how much you are loved by others."

So said the Wizard to the Tin Man and it certainly held true for the much loved Sid. Marla and I are heartbroken and we will miss him dearly. So many laughs and fun times together will live in our hearts forever. Peace and comfort to Jody and all his family.

So long old pal.
