SIGMUND MACKIEWICZ Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 17, 2014.
SIGMUND MACKIEWICZ Sigmund (Ziggy) Mackiewicz of Bayonne, passed away on Thursday, November 13th, surrounded by his family and loved ones. Born in 1932 to Zygmund and Mary (nee: Nowicki) Mackiewicz, Ziggy was a lifelong and much-loved resident of Bayonne. From March 1950 through April 1952, Ziggy served proudly as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, seeing action in both Central and South Korea; he was the recipient of both a Korean Service Medal and a United Nations Medal for his service. For 29 years, he served as a proud member of the Bayonne Fire Department, retiring as a captain in 1989. He worked for Charmonix Condominium for the past 22 years retiring in October of this year. Ziggy also brought joy to the children of Bayonne as the owner of Kristensen's Ice Cream Parolr from 1960 to 1970. Ziggy was the loving husband and soul-mate of Irene (nee: Ward), and the much loved father of four children and their spouses, Robert, Thomas and wife Amy (nee: Nalitt), Nancy and husband Allan Weinstein, and Susan and husband Rafeal P. Ruiz. He was a proud, always patient, and caring grandfather to Jessica and Julie Weinstein, Sigmund Alexander, Benjamin Thomas and Jacob Raphael Ruiz. Ziggy came from a large and happy Bayonne family, predeceased by his siblings, Helen Kuchinski, Mildred Mackiewicz, Irene Crotty, Stanley Mackiewicz, John Mackiewicz, Raymond Mackiewicz and survived by his twin-sister, Joan Gunshefski and husband Al and brother Edward Mackiewicz. He was also the cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews. Ziggy's biggest loves were spending time with his family and friends, listening to music, and watching old movies. He was a truly great man and leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness and good humor that will be remembered by and inspire his many friends and loved ones for countless years to come. We all loved Ziggy dearly, knowing him meant joy. We miss him so. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the viewing on Wednesday, November 19th, 2014 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm only at G.
