Simon BRASCOUPE Obituary

BRASCOUPE, Simon Simon Brascoupe, 79, of the Tuscarora Indian Reservation, died Monday, May 24, 2004 in the Veterans Health Care Center, Buffalo, New York, after a brief illness. He was born on February 9, 1925 in Maniwaki, Quebec, the son of Patrick and Mary Ann (Tenasco) Brascoupe and came to the United States in 1944. Simon enlisted in the United States Navy on January 29, 1945 serving during World War II. He was discharged on April 17, 1946, as a Seaman Second Class USN-1 and was the recipient of the American Theatre Medal; Asiatic Pacific Medal and the Victory Medal. He was then employed as an ironworker by the Iron Workers Local #9 in Niagara Falls for over 45 years, prior to his retirement. Surviving is his wife of 57 years, the former Norma Patterson; Simon (Carol) Brascoupe Jr. of Ottawa; Clayton (Margaret) Brascoupe of Teseque, NM; Isaac (Rita) Brascoupe of Tuscarora Indian Reservation; two daughters, Edna Mae Szafran of the Tuscarora Indian Reservation; Wanda (Gary) Peters of Ottawa; a grandson who he raised, Elijah Szafran of Tuscarora Indian Reservation; a brother, James Brascoupe of Niagara Falls, Ontario; 18 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren. The family will be present at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, Sanborn, NY from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday where a prayer service will be held Thursday at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Tuscarora Baptist, 2208 Mount Hope Road with the Rev. Walter A. Printup Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery. Visit www.rhoneyfuneralhome.com for guest register.
