Simone E. Blanchard

Simone E. Blanchard, age 94, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on July 7, 2019. She was born on Mar 7, 1925 in Winslow, ME to the late Edmond and Cora (Julien) Bureau. Simone met her loving husband of 73 years, Roland, while working at the Harris Baking Co. in Waterville, ME. When she moved to Canada in 1942 to be closer to family, he would visit often and eventually they married in Canada on Aug. 25, 1945 during WWII. She was a member of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart's Women’s Club and also the DAV Women’s Auxiliary. Simone was an avid ten-pin bowler, card player, and an incredible cook. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, making puzzles, and cross-country traveling. She leaves behind six children: Kenneth Blanchard of Hadley, Pamela Harpin of Springfield, Diane Blanchard of Springfield, Janice Blanchard of Clemmons, NC, Carl Blanchard and his wife Brenda of Windsor, CT, Sandra Blanchard of Springfield; and was predeceased by her daughter Gail Nault of Springfield. She also leaves behind one sister, Rollande Fontaine and her husband Fernand of Sherbrooke, QC, Canada; one brother-in-law, Marius Langlois of Sherbrooke, QC, Canada; one sister-in-law, Monique Bureau of Quebec, Canada; grandchildren, Michael and Danielle Harpin, Jennifer Harpin, Holly Wensley, Jeffrey Sheran, Monique and Domenic Folco, Simone and Peter Dwyer, Sierra Blanchard, and Braeden Blanchard; and great grandchildren, Anna Heimsath, Lindsey Folco, Addison Wensley, and Benjamin Harpin. The family would like to give special thanks to Simone's caregivers: Diane, Veronica, & Francheska and also to Nurse Pam and the staff of the Hospice of Western & Central MA for their exceptional care. Visiting Hours will be held on Wed., July 10, 2019 from 4 to 7 pm at Sampson Chapel of the Acres at 21 Tinkham Rd., Springfield. A Memorial Mass will be held on Thurs., July 11, 2019 at 10 am at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the DAV Chapter 68, 68 Court St., Springfield, MA 01103.
