SIMONE SOLTNER Obituary
88, died peacefully on October 31st in Hunter, NY after a long illness. The beloved wife of Andre Soltner of Lutece for 54 years, she was born Simone Regine Gomez in Normandy where her parents had a small farm. At 18 she went to Paris and eventually became a waitress at Chez Hansi where she met her husband-to-be, then the chef. Married in Paris in 1962 she came to New York with Andre to become a cherished and valued partner running the dining room with grace, pride and efficiency, welcoming each guest and keeping things running smoothly in what has been widely acclaimed as the best French restaurant in the United States. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two brothers, Jacques and Florentin, and many nieces and nephews. After Lutece was sold in 1994, she enjoyed traveling the world on cruise ships where her husband lectured on food and did cooking demonstrations. A memorial service will be held at Frank E. Campbell (The Funeral Chapel), Madison Ave. at 81st Street on Friday, December 9th at 3:30pm.

My most memorable meal ever, about 1967or so. Never had another that even came clos. Remember the potato puffs can't remember what they were called.

Simone welcomed my wife, daughter and me to Lutech, without a reservation, on our one and only visit there. Andre visited our table to complete a memorable meal.

Simone was always the the best of LUTECE! My wife and I fondly remember one of our first meals in Paris in 1960 at Chez Hansi when I was a US Army Captain. It was a great joy to see
Simone and Andre years later in NYC.
