Sneed Taylor Adams Sr., 94, of Bedford, Va., passed away Thursday, July 23, 2009. He was born on September 14, 1914, in Franklin County, Va., a son of the late Tony Garfield Adams and Ada Frantz Adams. Sneed graduated from the Daleville Academy in Botetourt County, Va. in 1932 and from Virginia Tech in 1938 with a degree in Agriculture Economics. He married Marie Beatrice Padgett, of Lynchburg, on September 16, 1939. Sneed was employed by the United States Department of Agriculture in Bedford County from 1939 to 1977. He built a home in Bedford City in 1947 where he lived until October 2000 at which time he moved into the Elks National Home. He was an active member of his community being a charter member of Bedford Ruritan Club and a 50 year member of Liberty Masonic Lodge No. 95 and Bedford Royal Arch Chapter No. 60. He was District Deputy Grand Master of the 24th Masonic District in 1965. Sneed has been a member of Bedford Baptist Church since 1947. He served as a deacon and taught an adult Sunday school class. Sneed is survived by his three sons, Sneed Taylor Adams Jr., and his wife, Anne, of Katy, Texas, Michael Padgett Adams and his wife, Linda, of Daleville, and William Wade Adams, of Salem; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A celebration of Sneed's life will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at Bedford Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. David L. Henderson officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery with Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford, Va., 540-586-3443.
