Soheir Tawfik Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 9, 2025.
Soheir Awad Tawfik, affectionately known as Sue, departed into the loving hands of her Savior on May 6, 2025. Soheir was born in Fayoum, Egypt on October 14, 1948 to Habib and Moufida, along with her siblings Kamilia (late husband Kamel) and her late brother Kamil (wife Sanaa).

Soheir was a caring wife to her husband Atef, and a mother to her two sons, Andrew and Jonathan. She had many career pursuits that spanned genetics, banking, and others. Above all, her greatest love was for her family and Lord Jesus Christ. She would often joke that she wished for a daughter, which was granted when Andrew married Ashley in 2008. Her patience for a daughter was doubly rewarded when Jonathan and Monica wed in 2011. For both of these new daughters, her heart grew as her family expanded. In addition to wife and mother, her deepest joy was arguably for her 'habibi' grandchildren - Amirah, Corbin, Jordan, and Noelle.

One of the enduring hallmarks of Soheir was her giving and openness. As long as her family could remember, she was always telling the kids to not just remember others, but to show generosity in the way that we have been given from our Lord. Even years later, her family can remember her citing Matthew 10:42 when Jesus imparted the importance of extending a 'cup of water' to anyone and everyone. One of the fondest memories of her children was always welcoming people into the Tawfik home at all hours, making sure that they were well taken care of with tea, desserts, and laughter.

Beyond just her words, her lasting legacy was how she modeled extreme generosity to her family and friends. Ever since her children could remember, Soheir and Atef served others through hosting weekly Bible studies or making sure a friend or family had someplace to stay for however long they needed. She served alongside the churches in Egypt to provide for those who were less fortunate. While in California, she continued in her service through the ministry of Al Karma TV. The people around her were always the recipients of her endless generosity. In all seasons of life, she always made sure to cook their favorite meals for family visits (bamya, moulikhaya, macarona beshemel, and many others) and fill the fridge with fruit. Even though her family was miles away, it was no surprise when a random delivery would show up on the doorstep 'just because' - whether this was a gift card or a lovingly baked banana bread sent across multiple states. There are countless other times where she and Atef supported individual people or ministries in response to Christ's love. In word and deed, her generosity knew no bounds and she never knew a stranger.

These seeds of love serve as memories that will persist and bear "fruit that will last" (John 15:16). We rejoice with those she loves as she enters into a place where there is no sorrow or tears. We are thankful for the hope of the joy of the resurrection and looking forward to the day when we are reunited together.

Matthew 25:34-40 (ESV) Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, ... And the King will answer them, Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.'

I would like to express my deepest appreciation myself and on behalf of our children and their families to all of you who shared the celebration of the life of my beloved wife, Soheir, either by their presence in person or sharing these heartfelt messages stemming from genuine love as you remembered the times when we shared our lives together either in California or Egypt or Illinois among other locations. Our memories and love towards each other will continue, even Soheir is not present with us in the earthly body but her legacy and spirit continues. Our comfort that she has reached the haven of rest in the arms of Jesus after tumultuous sailing for the last few years . And now she has entered her final and everlasting true rest . " There remains therefore a rest for the people of God" Hebrews 4:9

Atef, Andrew and Jon thinking of you and sending prayers for our gracious Lord to keep you close. Sue was an extraordinary friend and a shining example of wisdom. She kept me grounded thru Carden's tumultuous teen years. We shared many joyous hours searching for the perfect gifts for Ashleigh and Monica and later Amirah. Her courage and resilience during her wound care following chemotherapy inspired us all. But her most remarkable attribute was her unwavering faith. She longed for a future life with Jesus, and thru her absence leaves a void, her legacy will continue to inspire me to live a life of purpose and devotion. She will forever be a beacon of hope and a testament to the power of faith.

I heard Sunday from Pat and Victor Fong of Soheir´s promotion to glory. My heart grieves for you and your family in this temporary season of sadness but we trust in our Lord Jesus Christ who has welcomed Sue into an eternity of communion, and we long for that time when we will join her in heaven. I pray for the peace that surpasses all understanding as you seek God in these following days. Soheir will forever remain in our memories as the humble and loving servant of the Lord she was. What a beautiful lady inside out and a godly woman who served the Lord wholeheartedly in every way possible. She was always ready to participate in the CA HOME Chapter meetings and host them graciously. She fought an amazing fight in the face of failing health and submitted to the will of the Lord without Complaint. Her love for the Lord and His work were driving her to go above and beyond what her frail body allowed but she persevered and set an example of sacrificial love for us to follow. May her life and testimony be a blessing to many. May the Lord comfort the dear family.
