Solomon Ross Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 12, 2021.
Solomon David Ross was born on September 21, 1967, in San Francisco, California to Betty Jean and James B. Ross Sr. James Sr. preceded him in death. He was the youngest of eight brothers and sisters. His brother, Larry Ray Jones, also preceded him in death. David attended Lawrence Elementary School, Carey Middle School, Aragon High School, and he graduated from Peninsula High School in San Mateo. In his adult life, David worked in construction, retail and the sales industries. Throughout his life in San Mateo, he was known, loved, and respected by many friends and neighbors. He would say hello to anyone who passed by 134 N. Claremont in a way that only he could. He could usually be heard saying, "Hey now, what cha' know good?, alright alright." David loved old school music, his favorite movie and soundtrack was Claudine. He loved to listen to and tell stories about the history of the family and could easily fill in the blanks when recounting events in North Central San Mateo. It seemed like he knew everyone in town. David or Solomon, as many knew him, always had a big smile and words of encouragement for everyone who crossed his path. He had a giving heart and would readily give you the shirt off his back. David leaves to mourn, his mother Betty Jean Ross, brothers Lonnie, Harold "Ronnie", Steve, Jim, sisters Juanita and Christine "Carol", one Aunt Linda Fae, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Some of his closest and dearest friends: Marlin Brown, Peter and David Johnson, Chris Coulter, Rob Jones, Luchie Guevara and many others. A special acknowledgement to his dear friend, Tezira Nabongo, who for over 30 years was always there for him. Her love and support for David and the family will never be forgotten.

My mind started wandering to the past, and I Googled the name of my cube-mate (at CellularOne circa 1995-97) and friend - Solomon Ross. I am saddened to see he has passed too soon. Solomon and I made an unlikely pair of friends, but nobody doubted that we were indeed friends. We shared (too) many laughs in the office and spent a lot of time outside the office as well. Eventually I was invited to Solomon's home in San Mateo near Wisnom's (also gone now), and even met family and friends.

Eventually our paths led in different directions, but several times while walking through San Mateo my attention would be called to someone driving buy in a car, leaning his big body out the window, and waving hello to me from the window of a passing car - it was always Solomon and always with a bigger-than-life smile. I will remember Solomon just like that. Take care my friend. All the best to Solomon's family and friends. I am sure you are missing that big personality. - Rick Einsiedl

So sorry for your loss. David was such a helpful and sociable person. He drove me to Oakland once and we talked the entire time. I really liked David.

We informally "adopted" David Solomon into our family over 30 years ago. While we will miss his charming smile and profound conversations, his memory and spirit will remain in our hearts.
