Sondra Faye Grimm

February 24, 1938 - June 2, 2022

Sondra Faye Grimm, 84, of Thousand Oaks California passed peacefully in her sleep on the morning of June 2, 2022. Unwavering in her joy for life, even as her health declined, she faced each day with a smile.

Sondra was born on February 24, 1938 in Harrisburg Pennsylvania to William and Myrtle (Metz) Grimm. She was the youngest of four daughters.

She had a love of books passed to her from her father who often read to her. As a young girl she would write poems and was very proud when at age twelve "The Unseen Power" was printed in the local paper.

The Unseen Power

How like a tree our lives must be,

Shedding our burdens, as leaves fall;

What yonder light does implement this phenomena?

That unseen power of love.

Her participation in the Drama Club at John Harris High School (Class of '56) likely led her to being voted "Class Clown." After graduation she worked for the State of Pennsylvania and spent time behind the scenes at the Harrisburg Community Theater where she met her husband Ronald Lee Isroelit, with whom she had two sons. After they divorced, her children moved to San Diego, California with their father. Two years later she summoned the courage to throw all of her belongings in a car and drove across the country to relocate there and be close to her sons.

Sondra found an appreciation for the beach and the arts in San Diego and would often attend plays at the Old Globe Theater in Balboa Park. She was able to manifest her high school title of "Class Clown" when she joined a clowning school and created the short lived persona of "Bonkers." After receiving her Real Property Administrator designation, she managed a portfolio of commercial real estate properties in and around San Diego and Rancho Bernardo.

In retirement Sondra lived with her son Todd and daughter-in-law Heather in Agoura Hills, CA. She doted on her two granddaughters who would snuggle up to her in bed as she read to them. She wasn't much of a pet person, but came to have a special relationship with the family dog Sgt. Pepper. She spent her free time as a volunteer, mentoring and reading to young children, sharing her life-long love of books.

There are two things to know about Sondra: she loved to smile, and she knew where every public bathroom was in a five mile radius of her current location. She was remarkable.

Sondra is survived by her sons Todd (Heather) Isroelit of Agoura Hills, CA and Sean Isroelit of Los Angeles, CA, along with her granddaughters Jessica Lauren Isroelit and Emma Rose Isroelit; and nieces Jennifer Furjanic, Lisa Keller and Kim Hong. She was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters Geraldine (Fluss), Arlene (Keller) and Betty (Wagner).

No memorial is planned at this time.

Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorial donations may be made in her honor to two programs that support childhood literacy:
