Sonia GREGERSEN Obituary

Published by Palm Beach Post on Oct. 8, 2017.
GREGERSEN, Sonia Sonia Gregersen, 80, passed away on September 27, 2017 at her residence at Allegro Senior Living in Jupiter, FL. Born in Coon Valley, WI June 4, 1937 to Doris and Elmer Osthoff. Sonia was the youngest of 5. She grew up in Dodgeville, WI and graduated from Dodgeville High School in 1955. Sonia moved to Madison, WI in 1964 with her children and met the love of her life Norman Gregersen. They moved to Coconut Grove, FL and married in 1972. Sonia and Norm opened and managed the Sausalito, a private nightclub in Coconut Grove. In 1979 they moved to Palm Beach and co-founded Palm Beach Motor Cars along with Robert Simpson, Sr. Sonia worked side by side with her husband helping to grow the business and worked as VP of Customer Support and Community Relations. Sonia traveled the world and had great adventures with her husband and the two remained totally devoted to each other. After Norman's death in 1997 Sonia moved to Palm Beach Gardens. Sonia continued to work at the Dealership until her retirement in 2012. Sonia worked hard her entire life and never thought of it as a job, it was her joy. She could always light up a room with her kooky sense of humor and boundless energy Sonia Gregersen lived her life for her family and there was nothing that brought her more happiness in this world then her grandchildren. The holidays were always a extravaganza for her, a time where she could bring those that she loved together. The memories she created for her family are a gift that her children and grandchildren will always cherish. Sonia's life was also spent giving to and serving her community. Over the years she worked tirelessly for numerous charities. Sonia loved children, and children loved Sonia. She was founder and president of Win For The Kids, a non profit organization formed in 1988 to assist disadvantaged children in Palm Beach County. Sonia served on the board of The Children's Place and Conner's Nursery in the 1990s. Sonia also served on the Board of Directors Council on Child Abuse and Neglect in Palm Beach County. Sonia was a recipient of the Jefferson Award in Palm Beach County and Women in Leadership Award for the Volunteer Sector. ARC awarded Sonia the President's Award 1991. Many will remember Sonia Gregersen as someone who worked to try and make the world a better place for disadvantaged children. Sonia's generosity and spirit will be dearly missed Sonia kept this quote framed and on her wall, it really sums up her essence. "A hundred years from now... it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove... but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child." The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of Allegro Senior Living and the Doctors and Nurses of TrustBridge Hospice. We also want to thank her friend and aide, Vinnette Traill who took such loving care of Sonia in the past 6 years. Sonia is survived by, daughter Anna Snyder Tyler, son Michaell Scott Snyder, grandson Bohdan Neswiacheny, granddaughters Michelle Hoyt and Christina Heller and her great-grandchildren Olivia and Michael Heller, her sister Florence Crubaugh and brother Bob Osthoff, along with many nieces and nephews. Sonia was a very kind, funny, smart, beautiful woman. She would give me a hard time when I first met her, but once I stayed around her for awhile and got to know her, she and I would talk about her family, and Connors Nursery (her face would light up) I got much pleasure out of conversing with her. I called her my feisty one she is truly missed at ALLEGRO. My thoughts and prayers to her family "She was one of a kind the mold was broken when she was created"

Sonia, when we first met I did not realize we were making memories. Your life was fill of love, laughter and happiness. The love you had for your husband, your children, your grand and great grands was so real. The love you showed to me and others was also real. I will be decorating for you with extra lights this Christmas.
Miss you but I will alway have the memories. RIP Sonia. My heartfelt condolences to Anna and the rest of family. ❤❤

Sonia will be missed, she was very witty and kept everyone laughing. Her infamous "Santa" was a friendly reminder that Christmas was year round.
God Bless, from the Allegro Family!

Sonia was a "light" for everyone that ever met her. She had the greatest sense of humor; she made Land Rover a fun and welcoming place to all. . . I will always remember her as a beautiful kind soul who embraced ALWAYS her inner child.
