Sonja Boston Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 6, 2017.
Sonja Gail Punch Boston, age 78, of Hickory, NC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 05, 2017 at Catawba Regional Hospice in Newton, NC. Born January 17, 1939, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Blevin Adolphus Punch and Doris Catherine Yount Punch.

Sonja was the secretary and treasurer of Boston Saw & Tool in Hickory and was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Conover. She loved the Lord and her family above all else.

Sonja enjoyed the discussions she had in her Sunday school class at Woodlawn Baptist Church, and attended whenever she was able, even when her health rendered it difficult to leave the house. She was close to her sister, Joy, and sister-in-law, Gail, who spent many hours keeping her company during her last weeks when she was homebound. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her husband, sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren. Sonja was told she would not be able to have children after a bout with rheumatic fever damaged her heart as a child. Despite that, she raised three sons, and enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow. She was even able to attend the college graduation of her oldest granddaughter. Sonja was determined to live each day to the fullest, and to help others know about the grace and salvation possible through Jesus.

Survivors include her loving husband of 58 years, Grady L. Boston of Hickory, NC; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Joyce Boston of Newton, NC, Greg Boston of Hickory, NC, and Geff and Amy Boston of Hickory, NC; grandchildren, Cristina Boston, Eric Boston, Harrison Boston, and Benjamin Boston; sister, Joy Punch Byrd of Hickory, NC; sister-in-law, Gail Bowman of Hickory.

A service of remembrance and celebration of Sonja's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Woodlawn Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Ed Yount officiating. A private committal service will be held for her family at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory, NC prior to the service.
The family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to: Woodlawn Baptist Church, 440 7th St. Pl. SW, Conover, NC, 28613 or to Catawba Regional Hospice, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC, 28658.

Sonja was such a sweet and Godly lady. We always looked for her in the corner of our Sunday school class each and every Sunday morning. We will fondly remember the times we shared with her and Grady at our class outings. Her passing is bittersweet because while we will miss her sweet smile, we also know that she is in the arms of Jesus, and is whole again.

Sonja was such a sweet soul with a gentle spirit. We enjoyed being in church with both Sonja and Grady, and will miss seeing her there. Heaven has gained another precious follower of Jesus. Hallelujah for Sonja however much she will be missed by those left behind.--Jim & Elaine Frazee
