McKAY, Sonja Lemarre June 18, 1940 - April 1, 2011 Sonja McKay of Calgary, AB, beloved wife of Richard (Rich) McKay, passed away at the Peter Lougheed Centre on Friday, April 1, 2011 at the age of 70. Sonja was born in Kingston ON, and grew up in Sault Ste Marie. She moved to Calgary in 1974. There she spent the rest of her life. Sonja was a fiercely independent woman and while caring for her daughters, worked her entire adult life. She was a respected administrator in the auto industry from 1982 until her retirement in 2006. Sonja had a tremendous passion for reading and a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors, animals and natural beauty. She had an infectious laugh and an adventurous spirit. She shared many traveling and camping excursions with her friends and family. Besides her husband Rich, Sonja is survived by three daughters, Dannette Graham and Sascha Mills, both residing in Ontario and Stephanie Zanella, residing in Germany. She leaves seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild, her brother Barry Muncaster, her niece, her nephew and many loving in-laws. At Sonja"s request there will be no formal Memorial but instead a wake, the date and time of which shall be announced. Sonja"s family wish to express their deepest gratitude and thanks to the talented and caring medical staff at the Peter Lougheed Centre.
