Sonny Abington Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 13, 2023.
Sonny Keith Abington, 52, of Memphis, Tennessee, passed away on November 9, 2023. Sonny was born on July 6, 1971, in Memphis. He was a kind and generous individual who expressed his affection through humor, jokes and doing things for others when they needed help. Sonny was a hard worker, spending several years driving an 18-wheeler truck and traversing the United States, gaining a wealth of experiences along the way.

One of Sonny's greatest joys in life was his beloved pit bull, Dash, who brought him immeasurable happiness. Sonny had a deep love and admiration for his grandparents and spent a significant portion of his life living with them on and off. He also lived with his sister at various times in his life where he enjoyed employing his skills at making household repairs and landscaping.

Sonny is survived by his mother, Wanda Bower, and stepfather, Jim Bower, as well as his father, Emmett Abington, and stepmother, Mary Abington. He is also survived by his sister, Wendy Abington Whitaker, and stepsister, Scarlett Mann. Sonny was an uncle to his nephew, Dylan Whitaker, who passed away in 2012 and two nieces, Hannah Mann and Melody Mann. Additionally, he had a close-knit circle of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who cherished him deeply and will greatly miss him.

He is predeceased by his grandfather, Herbert Perkins, and grandmothers, Violet Perkins and Dorothy Hill. Also his nephew, Dylan Whitaker.

Sonny obtained his GED after completing his high school education. In his free time, he found joy in working on cars as well as small engines, which allowed him to showcase his mechanical skills and passion for automobiles. He was also quite a good cook and especially enjoyed grilling out.

We mourn the loss of Sonny Keith Abington, a beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He will forever be remembered for his kindness, humor, and hardworking nature. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

Memorial Service will be at a later date to be determined.

Me and Sonny were best friends. We rode around all the time, we laughed continuously. We fought like brother and sister. But no matter what, we always stuck together. He would do anything for anyone. Had a heart of gold. He used to love the way I made his coffee. I lived with him quite some time. He would ALWAYS talk about his sister, how much he loves her and ashley. Anytime I would be upset about something he would try his best to cheer me up. His favorite quote to get me to smile was " ITS BRAND NEW, TOO" I will NEVER forget the love and emotional support you gave me Sonny. I wish I could've seen you one more time. But may you rest in peace, don't be too hard on them up there I'll see you again. Love always

Sonny,
You are greatly missed. I know we had our good and bad days but you were always there for me when I needed you the most. I know you loved deeply and loved me. I love and miss you. I wish God would have waited a little longer before calling you home but you're not suffering anymore. Rest easy. Until we meet again....
