Sophie T. (Targonski) Conrad, 94, of West Boylston, died Saturday, January 23, 2010 in Oakdale Rehab & Nursing Center, 76 North Main St. Her husband, John Conrad, Sr., died in 1994.

She leaves a daughter, Joyce Horne and her husband, John S. Horne Sr., of Dayville, CT; three grandchildren, Jennifer Schwartz and her husband Albert, John Horne Jr., and James Horne and his wife Erin; three great-grandchildren, Avery, A.J., and Evan Schwartz; a sister-in-law, Mary Benedict of West Boylston and nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by a son, John Conrad, Jr., and by a brother and two sisters, Joseph T. Benedict, Julia Targonski and Anna Truskoski. She was born and raised in Worcester, a daughter of Adolph and Alexandra (Stromko) Targonski and has lived in West Boylston for 44 years.

Mrs. Conrad was the assistant to the cafeteria manager for the Worcester Vocational High School and worked from 1964 until retiring in 1985. Previously she had worked at St. Vincent Hospital. Sophie was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, Worcester and the West Boylston Senior Center.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 26, from HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward St., Worcester with a Mass at 10:30 AM in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward St., Worcester. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. A calling hour will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday, January 26 from 9:00 to 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rev. Thaddeus X. Stachura, Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward St, Worcester 01610.

Dear Joyce and Family
words cannot describe my hurt over your loss. Sophie was one of my favorite people in this world. She was another grandmother to me. I am so sorry I could not make the services. I will always remember as I called her, my Soph.. I will visit our favorite spots and relive happy moments... Soph I will go to Coney Island and have a few dogs for you..... I love you Sophie and I will never ever forget you..... Love Krissy. Rest in Peace My Love.......
