Staff SGT. Matthew Emmet Walmsley

Staff SGT. Matthew Emmet Walmsley of Clovis, New Mexico, passed away suddenly on August 7, 2017. Born on November 16, 1989 in Albany, New York, he was the son of Thomas H. and Louise E. Walmsley of Frederick, MD. He is survived by siblings Shaun Walmsley of Indiana, PA, Liam (Melanie) Walmsley, SCPO USCG of Port Angeles, WA, Thomas (Antoinette) Walmsley, Jr, former SGT. Maryland Army National Guard of Albuquerque, NM, Elizabeth Walmsley of Frederick, MD, and Brendan Walmsley, Captain US Army of Ft. Campbell, KY. He is also survived by 12 nieces and nephews, Erykah Walmsley, Simone Walmsley, Celeste Walmsley, Luke Walmsley, Christopher Walmsley, Laela Walmsley, Jameson Walmsley, Makenna Walmsley, Jacoby Walmsley, Gianna Walmsley, Teddy Walmsley, and Evelyn Walmsley.

Matthew graduated from Governor Thomas Johnson High School in 2008. He played varsity Football, Wrestling, and Lacrosse. Upon graduation he entered the United States Air Force on July 1, 2008. Upon graduation of basic training he was assigned to 352 SOAMES in England and then to the 27 SOAMES at Cannon AFB in Clovis, NM. Matthew served all over Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Afghanistan and was a highly decorated Airman. The family would like to extend thanks for the kindnesses of the US Air Force Staff and Wingmen of Cannon Air Force Base, NM. Outside of his military duties, he was heavily involved in rescuing dogs. At the time of his passing he left behind 6 dogs that were all rehomed to loving homes of friends and family.

On Saturday, November 25th a Mass of Celebration will be held at St. Katherine Drexel Church at 8428 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick, MD at 12 noon. Following the service refreshments will be served at the Clover Hill Clubhouse at 8122 Glendale Drive, Frederick, MD. A private ceremony will be held at a future date at Arlington Cemetery. Donations in Matt's memory can be made to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention or to Frederick County Animal Rescue.
