We were very sorry to hear of Stanley's passing. We so enjoyed Stanley's company at gatherings at our friend Bill Brokenshire's home. We will remember Stanley for his kindness and compassion but also for his zest for life and his absolutely marvellous sense of humour. Debbie Dearlove and David Mason

To: Mrs. Hillier and the extended Hillier's Families.... Sorry to hear of your Son. Brother & Uncle's passing please accept our Deepest Sympathy to you and your family during this time. May the memories keep those we love close to us forever.. although words seem to say so little, we hope they help in some small way to ease the sense of loss that you're experiencing today. So hold fast to your memories, to all the cherished moments of the past, to the blessings and laughter, the joys and the celebrations, the sorrows and the tears. They all add up to a treasure of fond yesterdays that you shared and spent together, and keep the ones you loved close to you in spirit and thought. The special moments and memories in your life will never change. They will always be in your heart, today and forevermore. But although your heart is heavy today but remember God will be your stronghold, your Guide and also your Provider today, tomorrow and always and He loves you.. so cast all your cares on Him and Believe.. And rest assured our thoughts and our prayers are with you all during this time and in the days ahead. May God Bless You All...
I have many fond memories of Stan while attending John Burke along with the fun we share, his sense of humor and especially his nickname he pins on me many years ago... Rest in peace my friend. The memories are cherished and will never fade.

Because of our brother Jim there never seemed to be a time when Stan was not a part of our lives. Stan and Jim's friendship went back some 40 years from their early times here in St John's to the last decades there in Toronto. This is a terrible loss to each of you and I am so glad that Jim is able to be there now and you have all most graciously made him a part of these good-byes to your brother.
We will always be greatful for Stan's place in Jims life. In 2007 when Jim suffered a stroke it was Stan who stood by him trying his best to help Jim continue his life in Toronto and it was at Stan's urging as he saw that Jims life would not be the same and that as Jims family we needed to take steps to get our brother moved home. But their friendship simply continued in a different way; Stan was always there with a long phone call, visits to Jim here in St John's and every summer Stan made it possible for Jim to spend a couple of weeks in Toronto to ensure that my brother still had a connection to the people and places that had made up his life for so long.
Such was the nature of their friendship that whether weeks or months went by they just picked up where they left of. They laughed a lot many times at the things they got up to in their 20's and in later years the reminiscing about the things life had tossed their way as they went through their 40's and 50s'.They both loved cats and it was not unusual when I was visiting Jim to find Stan's cat moved in while Stan was visiting Grand Bank.or Jim's cat moved in with Stan .
I spoke with Stan on Christmas Eve and although I could sense his concern for his own health he still made time to worry about how Jim was really doing with a cold looming NFLD winter and he was anxious to tell Jim that he would be down in the Spring and yes surely I would be putting on another feed of fish and brewis .
Stan was funny and chatty and kind and always there with an opinion on some political or social event. He seemed to have the ability to get along with everyone and could always find common ground with people. I think over the years we Jim's family have all met and gotten to know Stan .Why our Mom even shared a bingo game with him there in Toronto in the 90's and in the 80s he and Jim often took the bus to Hamilton to visit our Grandmother. Stan was interested in everything and everyone's story and when you were being chatted up by Stan you felt you were the most important thing he was doing.
This is all so sad for you his family whom he was always so very proud of. So many stories Jim would hear over the years of your lives. Be gentle with each other as you adjust to life without your Stanley. Please know as well that Stan made so many lives better because of his presence and for sure my brother Jim has always felt blessed because your brother Stan was a big part of his life for so vey long. He will be missed so much.
