Stanley P. Janis Sr., 82, of 116 Pauline Drive died the night of May 30, 2009, in Jameson Hospital, surrounded by his loving family when he went to be with the Lord.Born Aug. 15, 1926, in New Castle, he was a son of the late Jan "John" and Kazmiera "Charlotte" Dolski Janowski.Stanley married the former Fannie Lee Isaac on July 25, 1960, and they were married for nearly 49 years. She survives.Stanley was Catholic, a member of St. Vincent DePaul Parish and a former member of SS. Philip and James Church.He became an ordained minister in 1972 and performed more than 11,000 weddings from 1972 to March 9, 2007, at the Pauline Isaac Wedding Chapel. Stanley co-owned and operated the Pauline Isaac Motel from 1961 to 1982, and the wedding chapel for more than 30 years, from 1977 to 2007, with his wife. Stanley retired from the New Castle City Police Department after 25 years of service in 1977. He worked on the motorcycle squad from 1953 to 1959.Stanley served as a notary public from 1960 to 1968.Stanley was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater with Co. C of the 36th Infantry Division from 1944 to 1946. He also served during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952. He held the rank of staff sergeant. Stanley was in the armored cavalry reserves from August 1946 to August 1949 with the 6th Armored Infantry Battalion, and in the Army Reserve Ready Reserves from August 1949 to March 1953. Stanley received the Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He was a 1946 graduate of New Castle High School.Stanley was a member of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 21 and VFW Post 315.He enjoyed traveling, watching TV and spending time with his family.In addition to his wife, Fannie Lee, he is survived by two sons, Stanley P. Janis Jr. and his companion, Maryann Hudak, of New Castle, and John Janis of Las Vegas; a daughter and son-in-law, Jacquelyn and James Brunton of New Castle; two grandsons, Michael J. and Thomas M. Brunton of New Castle; and several nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Theodore "Twee" Janowski and Joseph Janowski; and two sisters, Felicia Rigby Smith and Mary Criscione.Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Noga Funeral Home, 1142 S. Mill St.The New Castle Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites at 7:45 p.m. at the funeral home.A blessing service will be conducted at the funeral home tomorrow at 10 a.m. The Rev. Steven Palsa of St. Vincent DePaul Parish will officiate.Burial and committal service will be in Castle View Memorial Gardens.
