Stanley Reynolds Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 14 to Jun. 13, 2013.
Stanley Lawrence Reynolds, 87, died Thursday, May 2, 2013, at home, surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Appleton; his children, Matthew Reynolds (Sheila Simmington), Paul Reynolds (Lorrie Sylvester), Rebecca Uraneck (Will), Jennifer Reynolds (John Cothran), Michael Reynolds (Dana); and grandchildren Rafael, Kerry, Rachel, Carol, Michelle, Marie, Isaac, and Piper Belle.
He was born Oct. 22, 1925. During his long life he graced the lives of countless people around the world, always working to serve others in practical and spiritual ways.
He was a graduate of the University of Hawaii and earned graduate degrees from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and the Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge.
Stan was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, sailing in the Pacific on the destroyer escort USS Elden for two years. After the war, he married his childhood sweetheart, Jane Delpino, and they spent the next 47 years together until she died in 1993.
An ordained priest in the Episcopal church, Stan served in Massachusetts, Zamboanga (Philippines), Oklahoma, Hawaii, and Ohio. He participated in the civil rights movement and in 1964 was arrested during a North Carolina lunch counter sit-in. In the late 1960s, Stan was a Peace Corps director in Ceylon, and then moved his family to Oklahoma when he joined World Neighbors as vice president for overseas programs in village-level development.
Stan lived in four countries and traveled to 55. He loved the outdoors, whether in tropical waters or the Oklahoma prairie.
In 1995, he married a dear family friend since Peace Corps days, Judy Appleton of Oberlin. He considered loved ever to be life's most powerful force and he warmed people with his kind and gentle spirit to the end of his days. His family and friends will carry him with them always.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 25 at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 1601 West Imhoof Rd., Norman, OK from 2-4 p.m.
To honor his life, contributions may be sent to the following organizations, which work with causes close to Stan's heart: Pambe Ghana, P.O.
