Stanley Rubin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 30, 2024.
It is with great sadness that the children of Stanley Rubin announce his death on May 28, 2024. Stan was a devoted husband to Elaine Roth Rubin, who preceded him in death. He was also predeceased by his daughter, Linda Shafritz (Laryl) of Los Angeles, California. He was also a loving father to surviving children Bruce Rubin (Suzie Boss) of Portland, Oregon; Jill Aul (William) of St. Charles, Missouri; Andrew Rubin of Houston, Texas; and John Rubin (Lisa) of Godfrey, Illinois. He was a kind grandfather to ten grandchildren, and a proud great-grandfather to five great-grandsons. Born and raised in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 17 and was a veteran of the Second World War. He then earned bachelor's and master's degrees at the University of Pittsburgh. He raised his family in Pittsburgh and worked at Joseph Horne Company and Kaufmann's department stores, where he was a beloved manager, friend, and colleague. Stan was a founding member of Beth Israel Center synagogue in Pittsburgh. He later relocated to St. Louis, where he worked at Dillard's Department Stores until his retirement. He and Elaine retired to Florida, where he lived most of the last third of his life. After Elaine's passing he was a treasured companion of Elizabeth Holmes, whose family held Stan dear for the remainder of his life. His final years were spent in St. Charles, Missouri, where he loved seeing his local children and talking to his distant children daily.

Those who knew Stan will remember him for his kindness, his generosity, his sharp but dry sense of humor, and most of all for his love of family. He was a voracious reader and an engaging story teller. He was a gentleman in every sense of the word, and a model to those who aspire to be fair, kind, and generous adults. He was a man of integrity who valued education and honesty, who treated everyone respectfully, and who earned the respect of others. He was truly a mensch. No sacrifice for his children was too much, and he delighted in watching his grandchildren grow into adulthood. He was accepting of all, and is missed tremendously by the many people whose lives he touched.

No service is planned; Stan wanted to pass with no fanfare. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that those wishing to remember him tell someone near to them that they love them. For anyone determined to donate in his memory, Stan's favorite charity was St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Stan was a wonderful neighbor along with his devoted wife Elaine when they lived on Macassar Dr. in Pittsburgh, and very close friends with our family.
I always enjoyed babysitting for their three oldest children Bruce, Linda and Jill, and was thrilled at the chance to reconnect when my late husband and I moved to FL in 1995, and they were already living in Jupiter.
Stan had an amazing smile that made his eyes sparkle most especially when Elaine made a funny comment, and you could see how special she was to him. The Rubins were a loving family
who valued each other, and appreciated their close friends by always being there when needed.
My memory of their warm and upbeat personalities will stay with me forever.
