STELLA PEARL DEMAREST JUNE 15, 1921 - JUNE 20, 2004
Stella Pearl Demarest, born on June 15, 1921 in Granite, Oklahoma, passed away in her home in Modesto, CA, Sunday, June 20, 2004.
Pearl was raised in Granite, OK. She graduated from Lake Creek High School in 1940 and attended South Western College in Oklahoma. She enjoyed playing basketball as a student.
Pearl moved to California in 1942 where she met and married Louis Francis (Mac) MacDonald. Pearl and Mac were married for 21 years and had two daughters, Nellie Frison and Rita Spears. Pearl managed a toy store in Oakland, CA., and after Mac's death went to work for Pacific, Gas & Electric in Oakland.
Pearl met Fred W. Demarest in Oakland, and in 1971 they married. Pearl gained two more daughters, Linda MacDannald and Joanne Caskey, and a son, Fred Demarest.
Upon retirement they moved to Pine Grove, CA. While living in Pine Grove Pearl was a docent at Chaw Se Grinding Rock and a Hospice volunteer. Pearl and Fred were involved with SIRS and Masonic Organizations.
In 1994 they moved to Modesto. Pearl had a very active social life at Friendly Village. Fred and Pearl were together until his death in 2001.
Pearl was known for her wit and sense of humor. Pearl was always involving her family with shared projects, such as sewing, gardening and entertaining. She always made others feel special and had a personal connection with those she knew. Her house was a social epicenter for friends and family. Pearl's spirit influenced those around her and she will be deeply missed.
Pearl is survived by her five children, 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, her cousin Roberta Patrick, her niece Mary-Margaret Collins, her brothers Ray and Bill Carothers, and her sisters Joyce Richardson, Mary Hutson and Imogene Snow.
A funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 PM at Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel at 419 Scenic Drive in Modesto. There will be a viewing for friends and family on Wednesday from 4-9 PM.
Remembrances may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 2425 Stockton Blvd, Sacramento, 95812 and/or Community Hospice, Inc, 601 McHenry Ave, Modesto, 95350.
