Stephanie Ewalt Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 17, 2025.
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Stephanie Ewalt on February 12, 2025, while at the Mary Morton Parsons Health Center at Westminster Canterbury, Richmond, Virginia.

Stephanie was a resident of Midlothian, Virginia, and spent her early life at Beverly Hall, Millersville, MD. She was predeceased by her parents G. Walther and Claire Stalfort Ewalt and siblings Beverly Barton Ewalt and Rosalie Ewalt Kelly.

She was a devoted and loving mother, who is survived by her children James Riley, Ayers V (Amanda); C. Brandon Ayers; Cameron S. Ayers. Her surviving siblings are Martha Ewalt Cox (Ocala, FL); G. Walther "Wally" Ewalt (Salem, SC); Barton Ewalt (Chloe), Prince Frederick, MD, and Douglas Ewalt (Elizabeth), Prince Frederick, MD. Her surviving grandchildren who affectionally called her "Gigi" are Reagan Ayers and Riley Ayers.

Stephanie was a graduate of Wroxeter-on-the-Severn School, Severna Park, Maryland, a boarder and graduate of Holton-Arms School, Bethesda, Maryland, and Sweet Briar College, Amherst, VA.

She was a longtime parishioner of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, and her faith was an integral part of her life.

Stephanie had a passion for travel and enjoyed frequent trips to New York and London, England to visit friends and attend theaters and museums. Stephanie loved to travel and especially loved to take her children and daughter in law with her, so they could all create lasting memories from around the world.

Alongside her passion for travel, she adored her beloved dachshunds that she always had by her side, bringing her endless companionship and pleasure.

She was an equestrian and had been riding horses since age 5 with a deep love of thoroughbreds, where some were bred by her father at "Delhi Plantation" in Southern Maryland. One of her greatest enjoyments was an opportunity to watch on TV the London 2012 Olympics while in London, particularly the Equestrian Dressage events. Further, she especially enjoyed visiting the Cotswolds and attending the Royal Ascot Races in June where she entertained her UK friends.

Stephanie also cherished visiting her vacation home, "Magnolia Ridge" located along Battle Creek in Southern Maryland where she entertained friends and family. Because she was not allowed to have any friends or family over to the house she lived at in Midlothian, Virginia, she loved having her vacation home, given to her by her mother. This is where she could make her own rules and loved having friends and family stay there. She made it very well known that she wanted her boys, daughter in law, and two grandchildren to enjoy the cottage, and create lifelong memories there. Sadly, her POA sold the property while she was incapacitated at Westminster Canterbury. She was also active in the community serving on the boards at the Boys Club of Virginia, the Virginia Historical Society and Sweet Briar College Alumni.

Stephanie was a past member of the Junior League of Richmond. More than anything, Stephanie enjoyed spoiling others, while being stingy when it came to herself. Making others happy and putting their needs over her own is what she will forever be known for, along with her endless kindness and sweetness towards everyone.

She was never concerned about keeping or maintaining a social status like her husband. He would constantly put on a facade to make himself seem more important than he was. Everyone saw right through it and never believed anything that came out of his mouth.

Stephanie made her International Debutante Debut at the Ball of the Silver Rose, Palais Schwarzenberg, Vienna, Austria and at the Debutante Cotillion, Sheraton Park Hotel, Washington, DC.

Stephanie had an unwavering love for her family, always staying connected and cherishing every opportunity to gather with them. She had countless friends, each of whom she valued deeply, forming bonds that spanned decades and touched many lives. She enjoyed her life to the fullest and loved spending time with her two beloved grandchildren as well as with her sons and family and friends. She had the gift of always having a smile on her face and an infectious personality. Her positive spirit would fill a room and was carried into everything she did. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of kindness, selflessness, and unwavering love will continue to live on in the hearts of family and friends. She will be remembered for her warmth, her love of nature, and the way she made the world a more beautiful place.

The family wishes to acknowledge and express appreciation to those who cared for Stephanie at the Mary Morton Parsons Health Center and the team at Westminster Canterbury for their devoted care and partnership with the family. Moreover, a special appreciation and gratitude for the unceasing, compassionate care of Stephanie for the past several years by her private caregivers, Juanita Brown, and Portia Crump.

Funeral services will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 6000 Grove Avenue, Richmond, Virginia on February 19, 2025, at 11:00 AM.

A burial will be held at Westhampton Memorial Park, 10000 Patterson Ave., Richmond, Virginia following the service at St. Stephens.

Stephanie,
So sad to have learned of your passing. Very glad I visited your grave with our friends and saw how to find this obituary. We know you had been a very bad place not just at Westminster Canterbury, but elsewhere for so very long.
We are just so happy that you finally did what all of your friends had been telling you to do for so many years, which was to finally leave and be with people who love you and care about you.
I will always cherish each and every memory we ever had.
Love, Carol
