Stephanie Paulk

I have very fond memories of Stephanie as a lovely, bright, and creative young lady in the elementary school. Her life was a gift and inspiration to all of us who knew her. My heart is with all of you today. Much love, Judy Windham

Honestly I did not know Stephanie personally; I only knew her through her performances and events at Eyedrum (as JS van Buskirk). The InfoDemo series she launched circa 2004 was absolutely brilliant.

But what I remember most is the time that she did tarot readings. Eyedrum was having one of their huge art opening events, and she had set up a little card table in the middle of the gallery and was reading tarot cards for patrons. I sat down for my reading, she dealt the cards, looked at them for a minute, and then blanched. Apparently the tarot cards told her that I was the anti-Christ or something. She recovered, dealt the cards again, and gave me a more reasonable reading (possible faked). Ever since then I've wondered what she found in my soul!

R.I.P. Stephanie, you were a true gem.

I knew Stephanie at Columbia, especially when we were seniors. She was brilliant and very kind. And funny. She showed me some of her creative work, including the Spot the Dog cartoons that she put in the school newspaper. They were excellent. I am glad to learn from a mutual friend that she had such a loving marriage. She deserved that. I extend my heartfelt condolences to all her family.

Stephanie was my first friend at Westminster. Entering the school as a new student in 7th grade, I knew no one and was very insecure and shy. Stephanie befriended me, showing me around the school, and inviting me over to her house. I never understood why such a cool, self-assured girl would want to be friends with me, but I was so grateful that she did.

I was lucky enough to know Stephanie in junior high school, when we were in a band together. She was the budding artist then and the lyricist for the group. The band only lasted about one or two practices, but I was lucky enough to gain her friendship. I loved her originality and creativity - she introduced me to much cooler music (Depeche Mode) than what I was listening to, and I loved her blue ceiling in her room. A few years later when I was able to design my own room, I was inspired by her and painted my own ceiling pink (much to the chagrin of my parents, but they eventually came around, especially once I told her that Stephanie had an electric blue ceiling). My parents were thrilled to reconnect with her in her adult years when she and my father worked at the same law firm. I have such happy memories of knowing her as a child and of her wonderful and loving family. She was a truly special person, and I am so glad that I knew her and only wish I had more contact with her as an adult. I send my deepest condolences to the family for the loss of such a genuinely wonderful, unique, and talented friend.
