Stephen Cobble Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Aug. 29 to Aug. 31, 2018.
Stephen Ray Cobble

Knoxville, TN

Stephen Ray Cobble, DDS, age 64, born to Raymond E. and Ernestine M. Cobble on August 13, 1954 in Kingsport TN, passed away peacefully August 26, 2018 at home in Knoxville TN. An active member of Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church. Stephen - Steve, sang in the choir, was on the mission committee, and was a Stephen Minister. He was part of the Cherokee Country Club Men's Bible Study, and the Dirty Dozen Bible Study. Every Saturday, he ate breakfast at Long's Drugstore with the same group of old friends. He graduated from the University of TN Knoxville, where he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, and received his Doctorate in Dentistry from the University of TN Memphis.. Steve loved reading, and had a lifelong interest in studying alternative healthcare practices. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, and experiencing new things. Steve was known for his relentless pursuit of his passions, and was dedicated to learning. He studied medicine, finance, and politics. Steve was also a fighter, and stood up for what he believed in. He fought his illness to the very end, and his courage is a shining example for his survivors. During his last moments with his family, he wanted to share that he spent his time on earth beside the love of his life, Jan, and surrounded by his family. He understood that it's not what happens to us in life that is important, it is how we continue to live our lives through sometimes difficult circumstances that defines who we are. He was preceded in death by his father Raymond E. Cobble and his brother Clark Cobble. He is survived by his wife, Janet Montgomery Cobble, his son, Andrew Cobble (Coatney), his son, John "Jay" Cobble (Rebecca). Their children, Carter, Miles, Henry Ray, Gwennie, Jack, and Myers. His mother, Mrs. Raymond Cobble (Ernestine), brother, Phil Cobble, mother-in-law, Mrs. Jack Montgomery (Joanna), and sister-in-law, Nancy J. Montgomery. A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Friday, August 31, 2018 at Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church, Reverend Mark D. Lampley officiating. The family will receive friends in Barron Hall following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church, 3700 Keowee Avenue SW, Knoxville, TN 37919. Online condolences may be received at www.rosemortuary.com. Arrangements provided by Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.
