Stephen Ellis Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 9, 2025.
Stephen Ellis, 77, passed away on February 9, 2025, in Flower Mound, Texas, with his son Jason lovingly by his side.

Born on April 13, 1947, in Jefferson, Kentucky, Stephen pursued a distinguished academic career. Stephen earned a bachelors degree in Biology from the University of Georgia. He also earned a master's degree in Public Health from the University of Oregon and a master's degree in Economics from the University of Texas at Dallas. His passion for education led him to Texas Christian University, where he served as an adjunct professor of economics until his retirement in 2018. He stepped away from teaching to devote himself to caring for his beloved wife, Darlene Legge, during her illness.

He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Ellis, along with her husband, David, and their three children: Jack, Connor, and Steven. He is also survived by his son, Jason Ellis. Stephen is also remembered by his sister, Patti Ellis, and her two children, Trey and Katherine; as well as his brother Tommy Ellis and Tommy's wife Linda and their two children, Adam and Lee.

In honor of his late wife Darlene, who passed away from cancer, Stephen established a memorial scholarship at Baylor University in her name-a testament to his enduring love and commitment to both Darlene and to education.

Stephen's memory will live on through the lives he touched as an educator, and family member. May those who knew him find comfort in the legacy he leaves behind.

I miss you so much. I pray that you and Darlene are together again. Stephanie, Jason, and I remember another "Steve story" often and smile! Our children make us both so proud each and every day. I will always love you as I did from our first day meeting at UGA. Come back and see us all. We are listening....c
