Stephen Jacobs Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 24, 2016.
Stephen Venger Jacobs, 81, of North Granby, beloved husband of Eileen (Ortner) Jacobs for 62 years, died on Wednesday, August 24, 2016. Born and raised in Mount Vernon, NY, he was the son of the late Jerome and Rose (Venger) Jacobs. He attended the University of Maine at Orono and received his BA from New York University. Most of Steve's career was dedicated to developing ROJAY, a family-owned party supply business, headquartered in Mount Vernon, NY. He took ownership of the business, retiring in 1990. He was a man of many talents and interests who loved art, music, theatre, literature and photography. He was musically and artistically gifted. In his early years he played the saxophone and clarinet, and later in life focused on creating metal sculpture. His interest in design led to the creation of SVJacobs Designs, a company specializing in website design and video editing. He enjoyed the outdoors, and while living in Vermont, spent much time hiking, and skiing on Stratton Mountain. Also giving him pleasure was the time he spent sailing, improvising jazz on the keyboard, cooking and doing The New York Times crossword puzzles (in ink). Steve will also be remembered for his keen sense of humor, which he exhibited in the final hours of his life. He was a devoted, loving and supportive husband, father, and grandfather, and will be greatly missed. Besides his wife Eileen, he leaves behind a daughter Carole L. Aguilar of Simsbury; son Lawrence E. Jacobs (Kumiko) of Foster City, CA; a daughter Jennifer L. Pueschner (Todd) of Tucson, AZ; two sisters Marilyn J. Abel of Lexington, MA and Harriet J. Abel of Norwalk, CT; eight grandchildren: Lauren, Jonah, and Julia Aguilar; Bryce and Brianna Jacobs; Chad, Caitlyn, and Matthew Pueschner. He was predeceased by a daughter Laura E. Jacobs. Family and friends are invited to a Sharing of Memories, Saturday, August 27, 2016 beginning at 2 PM at the Hayes Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook Street, Granby.
