Passed away peacefully of pneumonia. Family were by his side after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was proud to be cancer free for the last 3 years.
Stephen was the son of Horace Glynne Jones MD and Beatrice Kilburn Jones of Los Gatos, CA. Siblings Jeannette Ogburn, Robert Jones and Richard Jones (deceased).
Steve graduated from Los Gatos High School and UC Berkeley where he was a member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity.
On Sept.4, 1954 he and Lowrey Hardin were married in a garden wedding in Los Gatos. He attended Officer Candidate School in Newport, RI, followed by 3 year service as a Naval Officer aboard the USS Hollister.
Lowrey and Steve settled in Lafayette, CA and later in Diablo, CA where they designed and built their beloved Farfetched Farm. Here they cherished family, friends, horses and Diablo country life. Steve enjoyed his tennis group, fly fishing, trail riding, dominoes, weekends at their cabin, "Treetops", in Carmel Valley, and playing the role of the " Farfetched Farmer".
Steve was a partner at the investment firm of Shuman Agnew in San Francisco which was later acquired by Morgan Stanley. He eventually retired as VP at Smith Barney in Walnut Creek.
Always active in community and civic affairs, Steve served on the Board of Directors of John Muir Hospital Foundation and as well as the Lesher Center for the Arts. In Diablo he was President of the Diablo Service District and in 1976 received the Diablo Outstanding Citizen Award.
He was also a longtime member of the Bohemian Club and active in the Presbyterian Church.
Most important to Steve were his faith, family, friends and country.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Lowrey Jones; daughters Kim Ray of San Francisco, Lisa Hug of Alamo, Brooke Blomstrom of Southlake, TX; grand children Kevin and John Brereton, and Kristen and Stephen Blomstrom.
A memorial celebration will be held at Lafayette Orinda Presbyterian Church, 49 Knox Dr., Lafayette on April 27 at 1:30 PM.
