Stephen August King Cheboygan - Stephen "Steve" passed away peacefully on January 30, 2023, after a strong battle with cancer. Steve was born in Davison, Michigan on July 19, 1939. He graduated from Davison High School, class of 1957. He then attended Michigan State University graduating with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1964. Working at then owning Thompson Animal Clinic in St Clair Shores until he retired in 1997. After retirement he and his wife, Judy made their home on Mullett Lake in Cheboygan.

Steve was an avid sports fan and enjoyed all Detroit sports along with MSU football and basketball. Reading, watching movies, fishing, and "watching the water move" on lake while sitting on the porch, were some of his favorite things.

Steve is survived by his five children Shelley Garon, Kevin (Jami) King, Glen King, Todd (Kim) King, Chad (Heather) King; seven grandchildren Cody (Rebecca) Garon, Dylan Garon, Kyle (Katie) King, Nathan King, Maiya King, Wyatt King, and Roman King; two great-grandchildren Collin King and Nora Garon; siblings Jerry (Beverly) King, Geneva Krueger, Kenneth (Susan) King, Joe (Sharon) King, Charlotte (Joe) Hughes, and Audrey (Brad) Litz, along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Kenneth and Helen (Marien), sister Sandy, and in 2009 his wife, Judy.

Per his request, no service was held at the time of his death. A celebration get together will take place this summer.

I saw this news on the MSU Alumni letter. So sorry that Steve passed away. I am sure he is missed very much.


I worked for Steve a long time ago from 1981 until around 1985. He was a real character and we all enjoyed lunches at the surgery table. Barb Blaine and Kathleen Yates were there about the same time. Barb passed away of cancer in her 40's. I live in California since 1987.
