Stephen LASHCHUK

LASHCHUK, Stephen 1927 - 2018 Passed away following a brief but devastating illness on Friday, March 16, 2018 at the age of 91. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife of almost 68 years, Nancy Onyshkewych, his devoted children Carol (Allen Phillips), Mary Anne (Alex Gyba), Mark and his precious grandsons Stephen and Simon Gyba. He was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Mary (Andrusiak) and by his siblings Michael, Anne (late Peter Rakobowchuk) and Jimmy (late Mary Marak). He is survived by his sister-in-law Geraldine Hughes and his nieces and nephews in the Lashchuk, Rakobowchuk, Meaney and Hughes families. Stephen was born and raised in Montreal. He enjoyed a long and proud career as a Locomotive Engineer for the Canadian Pacific Railroad. He actively supported the Montreal Ukrainian Community and served in many roles including President of the Holy Ghost Parish Ukrainian Catholic Youth, Vice- President of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish Council, President of the Ukrainian Trident Golden Age Club and member of St. Andrij the Apostle Ukrainian Catholic Parish. Visitation will take place at Yves Légaré Funeral Complex on Thursday, March 22, 2018 from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. with a Panachyda at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service will take place in the Chapel on Friday, March 23, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. Thank you to the doctors and staff of the Lakeshore General Hospital for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Lakeshore General Hospital Foundation or St. Andrij the Apostle Parish will be gratefully appreciated. May he rest in peace.
