Stephen Olson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 21, 2025.
Reno - Stephen Donald Olson (Oly) passed away in his home on September 18, 2025 in Reno, NV. He was 78 years old.

Stephen was born in Waukegan, Illinois on October 12, 1946 to Helen and Rudolph Olson. He later attended Western Illinois University, where he met Jeannie Mychko, who would become his wife. They married in 1969. After graduating college and serving in the Army, he and Jeannie moved to Reno, NV, where they built their own home and raised a family. When coming to Reno in 1972, "Oly" was employed by Barlow Construction and went on to work for Southwest Builders. He later ventured out on his own to create High Country Construction.

Stephen was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, role model and friend. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, work hard and resourcefully solve any problem thrown his way. He looked forward to annual hunting trips with his dear friends. He also enjoyed shooting, skiing, riding motorcycles, improving his beautiful home, visiting estate sales and spending time with his family. He was a well-respected craftsman who built a reputation for quality, honest construction work and remodels around the Reno area over the last 30 years.

He is survived by his devoted, loving wife of 55 years, Jeannie Olson, daughters Holly Madole (Jeremy), Jill Salonga (Joseph), four grandchildren, Wyatt Madole, Garrett Madole, Jackson Salonga and Josie Salonga, nephews Jeff Courson and Chris Courson, and niece Lynn Courson. He is preceded in death by his parents Helen and Rudolph Olson, his brother Rudy Olson and his sister Marilyn Courson.

His good humor, smile, quiet strength and his calm, loving presence will be missed by all who knew him. He was loved dearly by so many.
