Stephen Plummer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 15, 2025.
Stephen Otis Plummer, 76, of Harrington, Maine passed away February 11th, 2025, in the comfort of his childhood home surrounded by his loved ones. After a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, one of which was fought with a smile on his face. Never allowing for discouragement and finding comfort in his faith and support from family.

He was born December 24th, 1948, in Machias, Maine, the son of Arnold and Esther Plummer. Raised in the town of Harrington and the youngest of three sons.

Stephen graduated in the first graduating class of Narragagus High School in 1967. He joined the U.S Army in September of 1967 and served two years in the Vietnam War as a line haul truck driver. Before entering a second tour he met his beloved wife and soul mate Ruberta Strout Plummer. After finishing his last tour and being honorably discharged in August of 1970 with receiving The Purple Heart. He was then reunited with Ruberta and married on October 7th, 1971. They shortly began their family that he admired dearly.

He began his career as a long-haul truck driver for L. Ray Packing of Milbridge, Maine in 1971. With a few other companies in between he ended his career at Jasper Wyman and Son in 2018 after many dedicated years. In January of 1997 he proudly received Truck Driver of Year through the State of Maine with 4 million perfect driving miles.

Stephen enjoyed spending countless hours building ham radios and communicating with people all over the world via morse code on amateur radio. His station was N1FPG. He earned many certifications along the way. Stephen was a lifelong member of the local VFW and donated to several charitable organizations that were dear to his heart. If you were to ask him, he would say his most cherished success was his family who he loved with all his heart.

He is predeceased by his parents and his two grandsons Bret Plummer and Stephen Plummer. He is survived by his wife Ruberta Plummer of 53 years. Children: Sarah-Ann Hammond, Susan (Harris) Norton, Jonathan (Danielle) Plummer. Grandchildren: Leslie, Brandon, Abigail (Ryan), Caleb, Genevieve, and Adreana. Great-grandchildren: Makenna and

Kanyon. He is also survived by his older brothers; Peter (Daria) Plummer of Connecticut and David Plummer of New Mexico. As well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

His service will be held on March 22nd 2025 at The Little Brown Baptist Church of Harrington at 11am. Following will be a celebration of life at the Columbia Town Hall.

We at Narraguagus Post 8 American Legion mourn the passing of our comrade-in-arms and hold his widow and family up in our prayers. Stephen was a kind and gentle man who will be missed. We honor his two tours in Vietnam, thanking him for shedding his blood resulting in a Purple Heart and salute him for his 24 year membership with Post 8.

My condolences, I always enjoyed talking to Steve, he would always take time to pass on a little wisdom or some dry sarcasm to any of us younger drivers that would listen. RIP my friend.
