Stephen Silverberg Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 4, 2025.
Stephen Edward Silverberg, 81, passed away suddenly on July 30, 2025, in Womelsdorf, Pennsylvania. Born on May 10, 1944, in Petersburg, Virginia, he lived a life marked by devotion to his family, creativity, and curiosity.

Steve earned his bachelor's degree from New York University and dedicated much of his professional life to education. As a teacher for over 35 years at Pershing Junior High School 220 in Brooklyn, and an instructor at Manhattan Beach Day Camp, he inspired countless students with his passion for learning and the arts. His love for teaching extended beyond the classroom-he was always eager to share knowledge with those around him, especially his grandchildren.

Known affectionately as "Steve String-art," he was a gifted craftsman whose artistic talents found expression in original works of string art and woodworking projects. Steve had an inventive mind and delighted in solving prime number puzzles, dabbling in basic computer programming, and compiling an ever-growing list of homonyms. He always had a book in his hands, a lanyard project in his pocket and was always willing to teach someone how to do the craft. His enthusiasm for problem-solving was matched only by his joy in sharing internet projects and jokes with his grandchildren-a pastime that brought laughter and connection across generations.

Steve was a loving husband to Lillian, his wife of 57 years. Together they built a strong and enduring partnership rooted in mutual respect and affection. He was a patient father to Tammy Gross and her husband Scott Gross, as well as Irene Sileski and her husband John Sileski. His role as a grandfather brought him immense pride; he cherished time spent with Molly and Lauren Gross and Jacob and Joshua Sileski.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Isidore and Tobie Silverberg.

Steve's legacy lives on through the many lives he touched-with kindness, wit, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to family. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Womelsdorf Community Library would be greatly appreciated.
