Stephen Smith Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 15, 2017.
Stephen "Steve" Gordon Smith, of Gardendale, passed away November 15, 2017 in Odessa, Tx.
Steve was born June 18, 1956 in Big Spring, Tx to Harold Joe and Bettye Smith. He grew up in Odessa, Tx, graduating in 1974 from Permian High School. He started out as a lineman for AT&T after graduation and eventually retired after 31 years of service. He was employed by Omega Chemicals for 7 years at the time of his death.
Steve found great joy in being a father to his daughter, Jesamy Ferguson, born July 11, 1983. He married the love of his life, Keira Oney, September 7, 1996. With this marriage, he gained two more daughters, Kasha Rosas and Keena Richardson. Steve and Keira spent over 21 years achieving their dream of living out in the country with their horses. Steve was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to everyone he came across. He had a giving spirit that was unparalleled and was happiest when he was making others laugh and enjoy themselves. He was a member of the congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses since 1982. He enjoyed being outside, grilling and spending time with friends. Steve loved traveling and having new experiences. Above all, family was Steve's first and foremost love.
Steve is survived by his wife, Keira Leigh Smith; three daughters: Jesamy Ferguson, husband Jeremy Ferguson, Kasha Rosas, husband Richard Rosas, and Keena Richardson; mother, Bettye Jo Smith; brother Greg Smith, wife Elaine; sister Sara Lange, husband Andy Lange; grandchildren Ava, Corbin, Serenity, Emma, Trey, Tara and husband Aaron, Tori, Haylee, Landyn; great granddaughter, Kenadee; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father, Harold Joe Smith.
A visitation will be held for friends and family Friday, November 17, 2017 from 6-8pm at Frank Wilson Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 11am at Frank Wilson Funeral Home.

We were so lucky to have the opportunity to know and work with Steve for all those years at Southwestern Bell. We enjoyed his smile, humor and knowledge. His wife and family were a joy to be around them. We will truly miss him.

I am so sorry for your great loss. May the God who "binds up the brokenhearted" and "comforts all who mourn" (Isaiah 61:1, 2) sustain your family during this challenging time. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy

KEIRA, WE WERE SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT STEVE; HE WAS ONE OF THOSE SPECIAL PEOPLE THAT YOU MEET AND KNOW IMMEDIATELY THAT THIS IS SOMEONE YOU ARE GOING TO LIKE. I CANNOT REMEMBER A TIME WHEN WE SAW HIM, THAT HE WASN'T SMILING & THAT SMILE AND SWEET SPIRIT WILL BE MISSED BY ALL WHO KNEW HIM.

Steve was one of the Nicest persons I've ever met. Thoughtful and caring, he always had a smile on his face and made me laugh. Steve was also an Awesome welder who built a lot of things for us when we lived in Gardendale. He will be missed by so many people. I don't think he ever met a stranger. My thoughts and prayers go out to Keira and the rest of the family. God Bless You Steve.

My first time to be around Steve, we went on a trail ride and camp vacation at Sister Creek resort. I loved him from first meeting him. I had known Keira from horse showing, and was thrilled for her finding such a sweet and caring man. They have been so wonderful and caring to our daughter, Stacey, at a time she needed them badly. Steve was always ready to be there in everyone's need. He was some one that you felt like you had known him all his life. Heaven is a better place, having Steve there. Dear friend, we will see you again some day. Until then just know we loved you and all you did for our family. Lynnette Feeler

Steve's will be missed by all who knew him. I will forever cherish the great times we had growing up, fishing, hunting , & our traditional fish fry get togethers at New Years. Not only was he my cousin, but he was like my own brother, we knew the other would always be there for each other in time of need. When he needed help to work on a vehicle he would call, but when I would need help he never hesitated. Praying for Keira, Jesamy, Sara,Greg,Bettye & all our families who loved him so much.
