Stephen "Steve" Baker Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 26, 2023.
Stephen "Steve" Ross Baker, passed away after an ongoing battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). With a life as vibrant as it was unconventional, Steve leaves behind an unforgettable legacy.

Born in Pittsburgh, PA, Steve soon moved to AZ and his childhood was marked by mischief and camaraderie. He formed an inseparable bond with his childhood friends, Randy, Gary, and Tim. Together, they embarked on adventures (some legal). Armed with not one, but two bachelor's degrees in Biology and Computer Science from UC Irvine, Steve wore multiple hats and pursued diverse interests with unyielding passion.

Sports and adrenaline were Steve's true companions. He participated in many activities from skiing and snowboarding (enjoyed by his family) to golf and marathon running (not enjoyed by his family). He flew airplanes, competed in mountain bike races, sailed, surfed and scuba-dived- continually proving that resilience and a touch of audacity were his secret weapons. His zest for exploration included traveling to countless states and countries.

Steve was armed with an irreverent sense of humor and an imagination that knew no bounds. His dry wit, often accompanied by a telltale smirk, could leave you gasping for breath between bouts of laughter. He had a knack for weaving comical narratives, like introducing his daughter as a "hooker", conveniently omitting that it was a rugby position reference. He was curious and an early adopter of any new technology on the market, made clear when his family found the entire history of cellphones in his belongings. In that spirit, they used the newest trend, GhatGPT, to help with crafting this obituary.

Professionally, Steve made a mark as the co-founder and CEO of BusinessGenetics. With a focus on improving communication and operational efficiencies, he tackled corporate challenges with finesse and wisdom, served on the boards of several private and non-profit organizations, co-authored the book "BusinessGenetics" to share his expertise at scale and served as an Adjunct Professor at The Daniels College of Business.

Steve's journey through life was accompanied by his loving wife, Linda, whom he married in an outdoor ceremony in Santa Fe, NM, perfectly timed after a thunderstorm and framed by a rainbow. They had two daughters, Carissa and Kendra, who he adored. He was also a proud grandpawrent to Billi, Daphne, and Guppy.

A celebration of Steve's remarkable life will be held by the family in August, as per his wishes (details to be announced at a later date). In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to CurePSP (psp.org), an organization dedicated to advancing research on PSP. They extend their heartfelt gratitude to the friends and caregivers who supported Steve during his long battle with this disease.

Steve was deeply loved by his Spanish family: Jesús, Lola, María and Cristina. We shared so many memories together, trips to Valencia and Madrid and above all, lots of laughs and ironic jockes :D I will never forget his jockes (some of them quite strong I would say ), his hugs, his smile and his macarroni&cheese. We've been so lucky to share special moments with him.

Thoughts and prayers are with Steve's family. I have nothing to say about Steve that everyone lucky enough to know him doesn't already know or feel. Lucky to have known him. God bless.

Steve and I met 47 years ago and quickly became close friends. Our careers took different paths in different parts of the country. I liked to believe that our paths would cross again, but alas not.

My sincere condolences to all the family.

So sorry to hear of Steve´s passing. I will always remember the good times like Sunday morning runs into Franktown, serving on the CKCS Operating Council, enjoying lunches together, and talking home improvement projects.

He was tireless and always willing to help.

Karen´s and my sympathies to Linda and the girls in this loss. He will be missed greatly.

My deepest condolences to the family and friends, and all who lost Steve from their lives. I am terribly saddened to hear the news.

I knew Steve from my time at Pitney Bowes, where I introduced Business Genetics to our re-engineering program. I had the pleasure of skiing with him in Colorado while he snowboarded because his knees couldn´t handle ski´s any longer! I decided that I wanted to be just like him!

I feel blessed that I was able to see Steve when he visited me in Dubai to play golf. Unfortunately, he broke his foot right from the start, but we managed to get in a few holes and a couple of nice meals. I loved him and will miss him.

Steve and I shared many special times together, both in businees and friendship. He was always there when you needed him and very supportive of any endeavor you pursued. I miss the many golf adventures we had and the many laughs while trying to play. He was truly a great person and I will miss him dearly.

I was very saddened to learn of Steve's passing. He no doubt endured his health issues with grace and also the determination to squeeze as much life out his remaining time as he could. Condolences to Linda and the girls, may God sustain and comfort you as you grieve Steve's loss, and yet celebrate the wonderful husband, father, colleague, friend to many that he was.
Linda was best friends in college with my wife Mary, and we were able to enjoy she and Steve in the early years of their marriage. I echo all that has been said about Steve, with emphasis on who he was to those of us who were able to share some of our life with him. Rest in peace, Steve. Well done good and faithful servant!

Steve, Steve, Steve. He was a man of many talents. I met him at US West in 1999. We worked on several projects there. When I moved to Warner Bros and Avnet, Steve and I worked on several projects for each company. I worked for him at BG. He was so supportive and he had a great sense of humor. He introduced me to the "purposeful thinking model". How to find the purpose of an activity. Amazing concept! He changed how I view everything. Steve was a kind and generous man. We remained friends for all these years. We would have meals together whenever he would come to Scottsdale. I will miss him.

I had the very good fortune to work for Steve for several years. He was warm and funny and appreciated a good dose of sarcasm. I learned so much professionally from working with him, but what stands out to me now was how good Steve was at appreciating his daughters and his wife and how lucky he was. I'll remember Steve always for his many kindnesses.

BJ and I have very enjoyable memories of working at DEC in New Mexico! He and Linda were very happy when I got him relocated to Colorado from his East Coast assignment! He was a good friend and a smart businessman. Our Corporate Cup ski team ripped up the races all over Colorado with Steve´s leadership!

We´re going to miss you Buddy!

My family will always remember Steve for being such a cool father. Always playing with his daughters and making jokes. I remember going with him Carissa, Kendra and Cris sailing a boat in a lake in Colorado. It was so fun sharing those moments because the wind started to blow and Steve knew how to manage with the boat!!
The last times we could see him was in Madrid and Valencia. In Valencia he enjoyed the food market! Always ready to live Life experiences and make the most of them. You will always remain in our hearts Steve!!
