Stephen H. Sweet

Stephen H. Sweet, 76, Carthage, Mo., passed away Thursday, June 12, 2008, in St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin. Mr. Sweet was born July 20, 1931, in Union City, Okla., the son of Arthur W. Sweet and Sylvia (Hoschouer) Sweet. He attended school in Ninnekah, Okla., and Carthage Senior High School. He was a member of the Carthage Restoration Branch Church. Mr. Sweet was a power plant operator for Carthage Water and Electric Plant for 40 years. Survivors include two daughters, Deborah G. Carney and husband, Dwight, Fayetteville, Ark., and Cindy J. Huckstep and husband, Linus, Carthage; three sons, Kerry J. Sweet and wife, Cerry, Bethany, La., Randall Sweet, Carthage, and Steve L. Sweet, Carthage; three sisters, Viola Brewer, El Reno, Okla., Sadie Gailey and husband, Clyde, Springfield, Mo., and Lillian Denton, Joplin, Mo.; one brother, Oran Sweet and wife, Betty, Carthage; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and two brothers. Visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 16, at Knell Mortuary, Carthage. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, in the Knell Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be in Park Cemetery, Carthage.
