DECKARD, STEVE POWELL age 79, of Crockett, passed away Saturday, December 14, 2002 in the Crockett Care Center. Mr. Deckard was born June 10,1923 in Sulphur Springs. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U. S. Marines in the South Pacific and after the war, returned to Dallas where he began a long and successful career in the printing supply business, Mr. Deckard met and married his wife and life partner, Miss Merle Elaine Collins and together they raised three children. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and brought his children up with a great respect for the outdoors. Upon retirement, he and Elaine moved to Crockett where he became involved with the Crockett Volunteer Fire Department as supporter of their training schools. In 1990, for his support, Mr. Deckard was named as an Honorary Lifetime Member. Survivors include: Sons: Steve H. Deckard of Sulphur Springs, Darrell Deckard of Crockett. Daughter: Deborah Gill and husband, Ron of Springtown. Grandchildren: Matthew Kleifgen of Phoenix, Ty Furrh of Crockett, Kimberly Furrh of San Marcos, Leanne Gates or Anchorage, Leslie Deckard of Crockett, Sarah Deckard of Sulphur Springs, Kaitlan Deckard of Sulphur Springs. Brothers: Homer Deckard and wife, Joann of Canton. Johnny Deckard of Dallas. Numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by wife, Elaine Deckard; sister, Ada Deckard, and brothers, Trew Deckard and Jimmy Deckard. Funeral services for Mr. Steve Powell Deckard will be held Tuesday, December 17, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel with Rev. Charles Goodson officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park. Family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Callaway-Allee Funeral Home Crockett, Texas 936-544-2244
