Steve KUNNE Obituary

Published by Calgary Herald on May 25, 2013.
KUNNE, Steve
1930 - 2013
Steve Kunne was born in Raymond, Alberta on May 13, 1930. His parents Steve and Mary emigrated from Hungary. They moved to Calgary in 1932 to Victoria Park and built a large house. There were five children in the family, Ethel, Nick, Martin, Steve and Margaret. Steve grew up in Victoria Park, Calgary and played hockey for the Calgary Junior Pee Wee B Team. Hockey was Steve's favorite sport until he injured his knee. Steve loved sports. He played baseball in the summer and curled in the winter. He also loved to fish and hunt and was an excellent marksman at trap and skeet shooting. In 1975, he won the Skeet shooting competition in the Alberta Summer Olympics. Steve was married in 1957 to Donna and had two daughters, Shelley was born July 13, 1963 and then Sharla was born July 25, 1965. Both girls were born at the Grace Hospital in Calgary. Steve was a carpenter and a superintendent for Jager Construction in Calgary until he retired. After he retired, he bought a hotel in Revelstoke for a few years. He moved back to Calgary and bought a home in Sandpoint, Idaho where he spent his winters golfing. Steve had many good friends, one of whom was Walter Finnie whom he spent a lot of time with during his retirement. After selling his home in Calgary, Steve bought an acreage west of Innisfail along the Little Red Deer River and lived there until his passing. He loved to watch wildlife - deer moose, geese, ducks, chickadees, etc., while sitting on his deck of his riverside home. Steve is predeceased by his parents, Steve and Mary; his brothers Nick and Martin and sister Margaret. He is survived by one older sister Ethel of Calgary; his two daughters Shelley and Sharla and his only surviving grandson Jordan Valer. Steve passed away peacefully on May 11, 2013. At Steve's request, there will be no Funeral Service. Memorial donations in Steve's honor can be given to the Medicine River Rehabilitation Wildlife Centre (Box 115, Spruce View, AB, T0M 1V0) or to the Alberta Humane Society (4455 - 110 Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB T2C 2T7).
