Stephen Douglas Lambert, a distinguished fighter pilot, dedicated professional, and passionate sports enthusiast, passed away on March 27, 2024, at the age of 80, following a courageous battle with stage 4 glioblastoma brain cancer.

Born and raised in Sacramento, California, Stephen, known to friends and family as Steve, was the son of Iva and Leonard Lambert. A standout athlete at Highlands High School, he was encouraged by his baseball coach to pursue higher education at Oregon State University. There, Steve not only developed a lifelong devotion to Oregon State-becoming a fervent Beaver fan-but also joined the Navy ROTC, setting the stage for his future military career.

After graduating, Steve served as a fighter pilot in the Vietnam War, where he demonstrated remarkable skill and bravery. His career in the Navy continued with his role as an F-8 instructor at Miramar, a position that preceded the renowned Top Gun program. His service reached new heights as a member of the Blue Angels in 1972 and 1973, where he became known for his precision and dedication.

Following his naval career, Steve transitioned to the restaurant industry and pharmaceutical sales before finding his true passion in golf. He successfully owned and operated several golf courses alongside his friend Jim Colbert, ending his career alongside Jim at Colbert Hills Golf Course in Manhattan, Kansas. Steve's love for golf was matched only by his enthusiasm for racquetball, skiing, and water activities.

Steve is survived by his beloved daughter, Ashley Funicelli (Anthony), and his cherished grandchildren, Leonardo and Dominic. He is also survived by his ex-wife, Nancy Lambert, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Iva and Leonard Lambert, and his brother Leo Lambert and his wife Lori Lambert.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Miramar on November 9, 2024, honoring Steve's remarkable legacy and the many lives he touched. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Glioblastoma Foundation.
