Steven Wayne Lance, 56, of Kingsland, Texas passed away April 3, 2021. He was born to Barney and Eva (Courtney) Lance on May 10, 1964 in Tehran, Iran.
Steve was born into a Military family and lived many places in his youth. His roots were in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. He graduated from McAllen Memorial High School in 1982. Steve was an accomplished musician and song writer. He was a founding member of the band Xenolith and his claim to fame was the song “A Different Kind of Rock”, it was also the translation of the bands name. As a true rocker, Steve could often be found with the windows rolled down jamming to Tom Petty, STYX, AC-DC, and Alanis Morrissette.
Steve relocated to the Hill Country town of Kingsland in the early 1990’s and worked in the water and wastewater industry. He made an impact with his friendly smile and kind demeanor on everyone he met. Steve could often be found honing his skills at pool and shuffleboard at Reverend Jim’s while enjoying a cold draft beer. He was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan and never missed a game. He also enjoyed following golf on T.V., teaching and sharing his knowledge with family and friends, and indulging in a big piece of red velvet cheesecake.
Steve is survived by his daughters, Melissa Nachelle Lance, and boyfriend James Humble, and Natasha Geller and husband Randall; siblings, Kenneth Lance, and wife Dedra, Anette Carter, Brad Carter, Jeff Carter, and Bill Carter, Jr; nieces and nephews, Allison Lance, Sophia Carter, Carlene Savard, Nicholas Carter, Travis Carter, Allison Semler, and Devon Ogrodowicz. He also leaves his beloved grand dogs, Camo and Daisy, ex-wife Angela Carnes and husband Wendell, and countless friends who will cherish his memory forever.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Barney and Eva Lance.
A benefit to help Steve’s family will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Reverend Jim’s Dam Pub, 19605 TX-29, Buchanan Dam, Texas 78639 starting at 11:00 A.M. The little time I knew Steve he was an amazing person and really cared about all of his family. He not only made me feel welcome but he did it with a smile on his face. He was great at getting everyone to smile even in the lowest of moods. I wish I could have met him a lot sooner then I did. He will always be missed.

Last time I saw Steve was at Reverend Jim's. Drank a couple of beers with him . He had or still has that very positive attitude. Man he was a Cowboys fan all the way . Even had the Dallas Cowboys pool table if I remember right. To his family and friends we were blessed to have him.

I want to express my thoughts are with the family during this time.
I have some wonderful pictures of Steve and I . He always smiled and had fun. We met at Reverend Jim’s. We became really close friends. We always met up at Reverend Jim’s when I was working out in that area or Fornos Restaurant close to my place. He always told me if things were different in his life I would have been his girlfriend. But our friendship was important to us. I will miss you so much. I am glad I talked to you on the phone about a week before passing. I will always remember you and cherish all the good times. Rest In Peace. ❤

What can I say? I loved you Steve Lance! You were the most loveable and genuine friend I hooked back up with after many years!! Fun times from Ben Milam Elementary School through graduation from McAllen Memorial High School in 1982!! Then...finally we hooked up again through Facebook and got to see each other again at Sweet Berry Farm in 2018!! Too many years apart but memories flooded in!! You are loved and will be missed!!❤
