Steve Smith

Steve Smith, age 73, of Caroleen, NC, died Sunday, May 12, 2013 at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Steve was born August 13, 1939 in Rutherford County, NC to the late Charlie D. Smith and Ada Hollifield Smith. He was an auto mechanic and owned and operated the Caroleen Garage for over 40 years. He was a Baptist and enjoyed NASCAR and taking care of his pets. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred Connor; two brothers, Homer Smith, Carl Smith and one grandson, Noah Cooper. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Vanise Lookadoo Smith; three children, Sandra Smith of Rutherfordton, Scott Smith of Caroleen and Suzanne Hensley and husband, Robert of Mooresboro; five grandchildren, Amanda Cooper and husband, Steven, Allen Phillips, Rebekah Hensley, Austin Hensley, Haley Hensley and five great-grandchildren, Caleb Cope, Emily Cooper, Miley Cooper, Coby Phillips and Legand Phillips. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at Goode's Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Robert Hensley, Reverend Frank Hoyle and Reverend Steven Cooper officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
