Steve Craig Staten

Steve Craig Staten peacefully passed on Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, at his home in Austin, Texas.He was born May 11, 1953, in Cushing, the son of Harold and Vernadene Staten of Tryon and grandson of Miner and Florence Sloan of Tryon and Elden and Bess Staten of Chandler.He graduated from Stillwater High School and went on to receive a master’s degree in accounting from Oklahoma State University. His career included several years in public accounting and many years in the oil and gas business. His hobbies included attending UT and OSU football and basketball games, scuba diving, traveling, gardening and barbecuing. He avidly supported UT and OSU athletics.For the last several years, he worked tirelessly with his long-time companion and best friend, Jeanette Hansford, to start up a retail business.He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Harold Elmo Staten and Vernadene Staten.He is survived by his daughter and grandson, Michele and Hunter Staten of Stillwater and son, Craig Staten of Waterloo, Iowa; his sister and brother-in-law, Sandy and Philip Hincks of Wichita Falls, Texas; brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Joni Staten of Colleyville, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.A graveside service will be held in Tryon Cemetery in Tryon Saturday at 10 a.m.
