Steven Eric Bruce passed away peacefully on December 22, 2022 at the age of 63. Steve was a devoted husband of 39 years to Jeanne, a selfless father to his three children, Laurin (Chris) Robinson, Mark (Caroline) Bruce, and Corin (Matthew) Luther, and a loving Papaw to Charlie, Sadie, Vivian, Josie, Louise, Maxwell, and baby Luther (due April 2023). Born on April 16, 1959 in Chillicothe, Ohio, Steve was a loyal son to the late Norma Jean Stockman, and Robert Roscoe Bruce, and brother to Doug (Chris) Bruce, Robert Bruce II, Joni (Joe) Molnar, and Michael Bruce. Step-son to the late Winston Stockman, step-sibling to Tanya (David) Peter, Beth (Lynn) Strehle, and the late Shaun Stockman. Survived by his aunt, Mary Kuhner, and uncle, Ronald (Diane) Bruce. He was a treasured brother-in-law to the late Dan (Marian) Riestenberg, Jan (late Tom) Binzer, Tom (Debi) Riestenberg, Ed (Jane) Riestenberg, Jenny (Don) Owens, Julie (Vince) Hopkins, Jerry (Erika) Judd, and Jimmy (Beth) Judd. Steve was a beloved uncle to dozens of nieces and nephews, and a friend, neighbor, and coach to many.
Steve grew up in Chillicothe, Ohio and attended Bishop Flaget High School where he excelled in basketball and baseball. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Dayton where he met his best friend and wife, Jeanne. They settled in Mason, Ohio where they created a beautiful life together raising their three children. Steve was a family man above all else. Together, they started two successful branding and design companies, Bruce Design and later Hyperquake. He adored his family and treasured his time with them.
Steve had strong faith, and always kept God at the center of his life and had many, many friends. He enjoyed one-on-one conversations much more than large crowds and he made deep connections. He was a generous man and deeply involved in the community. He did so much more than provide financial support-he was compassionate and spent countless hours with friends and family when they were sick. Steve enjoyed cooking both in the kitchen and on the Green Egg, and loved sharing what he made. He always had a fire roaring and usually had the backdoor open, no matter how cold or hot it was. He was a painfully slow, and unapologetic card player. He loved a good Hallmark Christmas movie. He was a fisherman, loved nature, and enjoyed his backyard pond including the battles with the blue heron. He loved his Cubbies and his Dayton Flyers. According to Steve, he invented beach bocce ball. He was a nine-hole golfer and a skilled painter. Steve was beloved for all of his talents, generous spirit, and dry sense of humor. He will be greatly missed.
The family would like to thank everyone who helped to care for Steve in his home these past couple of years including Megan, Trish, Michelle, Angel, Erin, Erika, Chris, Kup and Traci.

What began as a professional relationship turned into a friendship of many years. We have fond memories of dinner with Steve and Jeanne at Daveed's Restaurant and of Cori and Lauren playing in the back yard while we adults enjoyed Steve's latest culinary delights. We will remember and miss Steve always. Sending love to Jeanne and the entire family.

Not sure what to say other than I miss you and will always remember you. You were Doug’s little brother at St Mary’s but grew to be a great friend. I remember going to games and and shows with you and Jeannie and watching our kids grow up. Cindy and I love your family and miss all of you.

What a beautifully written obituary. I feel enormously blessed to have known Steve Bruce, whom I have called "Uncle Steve" for over a decade even though I´ve only been married to his nephew Dane for 5 years!
Uncle Steve was a laid-back and approachable man. He was genuine/"real" and had many interests, which made him easy to relate to and talk to. I found him fascinating because he seemed to really know himself and was not at all hesitant to show his love for others, either through acts of service (like cooking!) or straight up telling them he loved them!
It´s true what they say: people will never forget how you made them feel. Uncle Steve made me feel welcome and valued. Even from the very early days of dating Dane, Uncle Steve remembered my name and took an interest in getting to know me, which meant a lot to me. Over the course of the next 10+ years, all of the interactions with Uncle Steve - from smiling when he saw me, to little chats while he was cooking and hugs goodbye, to teasing me when I couldn´t remember where his kitchen trashcan was, all gave me the impression he considered me a valuable part of the family. In a sense, he always made me feel at home!! What I´m trying to convey is that Steve´s love for others and approachable nature was far-reaching, because it reached me...his wife´s sister´s son´s girlfriend/wife!!
Uncle Steve, thank you for all of the delicious meals, open invitations to swim in your pool, for being 100% yourself 100% of the time, for being extraordinarily successful in life yet remaining totally down to Earth, for openly loving God, and for making me feel like part of your family from the very beginning. I love you, I will miss you, and I will never forget you!!
